Portal works both ways. He can bring some good players also. Receivers will want to play for him. Winning cures all and he knows how to win

You see, we’re in the NCAA special exception of the portal because our coach retired. Our players are open to the portal, Arizona and Washington’s are too, every unclaimed player from the Winter open window is in the portal, but nobody else’s players can enter into the portal until the Spring.

Maybe DeBoer is going after Arizona’s top receiver or bringing over guys he likes from Washington, but the pickings are slim for SEC quality athletes.

Alabama hasn’t lost 3 games since 2010, they will burn DaBears house down!

The look after going 9-3 in year 1

He won’t have Penix.

He will have a RB at QB.

Alabama isn’t scheduled to play Ole Miss, so we won’t lose to them in the regular season. But Alabama could beat Georgia and LSU and still lose three games.

The point I was responding to wasn’t about next season. It was a hypothetical about losing three games per year the first three years. I was illustrating for Tuscaloosa that there’s no way for Alabama to go 9-3 in the regular season and walk away with the idea that it was a good year.

yeah, you'd have to have total chaos to get in with 4 losses. 3 losses is a high bar unless you win the conference and get the auto bid. CFP has not looked kindly on a 3rd loss unless it was a result of playing in the CCG. I could also seeing them not punishing a team if they played a tough OOC game and had a respectable loss from that game.

I think if DeBoer doesn't make the CFP or the SECCG by year 3, his seat is getting hot fast.

Depends on how good/bad he’s recruiting classes are.

There has never been a 4 loss team sniff the top 11 in the playoff era. Three loss teams are rare enough.

It is the top 11 ranked power five teams plus the highest ranked group of five team that make the playoffs. The 12th ranked team will miss out on the playoffs.

And I illustrated for you how going 9-3 next season would be a good season for any first year coach at any school against that schedule. Hell, it would be a good season period. That schedule isn’t hypothetical, it is real. And going 9-3 against it will be a good year. Great? No. But definitely top 20 and possibly top 10.

That may end up being pretty good in this new SEC. I think a lot of things have changed this year and we need to just wait and see what transpires.

If he does 9-3 then 9-3, he won’t get a third season.

Interesting side note - 2023 was the first and only season of the CFP that a 3-loss team did not make the top 12. In other words, 90% of the time a 3-loss team makes the top 12.

3-loss Teams in Top 12

2014: 4
2015: 1
2016: 5
2017: 1
2018: 4
2019: 2
2020: 2 (Covid Year)
2021: 1
2022: 2
2023: 0

With the competition in the SEC 9-3 is a damn good season and good enough to qualify for the playoffs in most years. So I'd have to say the Gumps would have to be pretty delusional to run him off for records like that.
