Deboer has had the best start to his career of any Alabama head coach in 93 years. He is the first Alabama head coach to start out 5-1 in his first season since Frank Thomas in 1931.

First 6 games at Alabama:

Thomas: 5-1
Drew: 4-2
Whitworth: 0-6
Bryant: 3-2-1
Perkins: 4-2
Curry: 4-2
Stallings: 3-3
Dubose: 3-3
Francione: 3-3
Shula: 2-4
Saban: 4-2
Deboer: 5-1

Anyone who thinks he would be fired for losing a road game to Tennessee does not have a fully functional brain.

How many of those coaches were handed the most talented team in the country for their first year?

Yes, Tennessee is stuck with Heupel in that case.

DeBoer will be the head coach through 2026, so buckle up. It's going to be ugly.

I read right here on this forum, Alabama would be trash this year because the most talented players hit the portal after last season.

Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings all left their successors if not the best program in the country at the time at least a top 5 program.

First year coaches traditionally have some struggles.

Alabama is 5-1 and ranked 7th.

Deboer has a lot of talent. But there is a VERY small gap between the top 3 teams. They all have the exact same record. There are a lot of top 10 teams, based on the recruiting composite you are using, who have a loss right now. In fact, only two are undefeated.

Bama: 5-1
Georgia: 5-1
Ohio State: 5-1
Texas: 6-0
Clemson: 5-1
Oregon: 6-0
Oklahoma: 4-2
LSU: 5-1
Notre Dame: 5-1
Texas A&M: 5-1

There are a number of teams ranked in the top 20 in talent who don’t have winning records.

#12 Florida: 3-3
#13 FSU: 1-5
#15 USC: 3-3
#18 Auburn: 2-4

You can’t consistently win without talent. But you can certainly lose with it.

Most would agree that Kirby Smart is the most successful coach in college football at the time. He inherited a Georgia program that was a borderline top 5 program and certainly a top 10 program. Kirby went 8-5 and lost to Vanderbilt his first season at Georgia.

If Alabama fires him without cause, they will owe him 90% of what is left of his ten year $87 million contract. He’s not going anywhere for at least a couple of years.

Nah. That'll come after losses in Baton Rouge and Norman.
No way in hell.

OU has no offense and half of their roster is in the ICU.

As in, do they fire him after 1 year?

Do you realize how bad that would make the entire Bama AD look?

Until Deboer gets rid of Milroe and gets a real QB, I don't hold the offense against him. He can't even install his real offense. They have some odd offense designed for Milroe and his slow brain to process....The defense is another story.

I think now with the 12 team playoff, coaches can get away with losing a couple of games a year in the power 4 conferences maybe even 3 if it gets you into the playoffs. IF Bama loses to Tenn, nothing is gonna happen to DeBoer, because a 2 loss Bama team still gets into the playoffs.
