They have to be manipulating the balls. There was little to none kicker advancement for the first 100 years of football. Now in the past 5 years they never miss and college guys kick 60 yarders with ease? Come on

I would guess there is a new training regiment that coaches use to make their legs strongernbesides the usual(Squats, Deadlifts, Leg Press, etc)

I remember seeing the original 63 yarder by Tom Dempsey back in 1970… totally unheard of back then.

Field goal kicking has gotten much better over just the past 10-15 years.
NFL kicking is obscene and college kicking has also come a long way. Kickers drill 50+ yarders every week, those used to be considered semi-miraculous.

Next year at the “urging” of our sister.., any FG missed resulted in other team taking over at spot of snap. Up to that point a missed FG resulted in other team getting it at their own 20 like a touchback.
I’ve been on this board a long time and I can probably count on one hand the times I learned anything significant about the sport on here. This is one of those times, I had no idea it used to be that way.
That note aside, the current rule is way better and the old one makes no logical sense. Kicking a long fg shouldn’t be risk free. Why would you ever punt under the old rule? Hell, under the old rules if you got stopped on your own 10, could you just line up for a fg, shank it on purpose, and put your opponent on their own 20? Again, that makes no sense.

No one has ever seen 60 yarders by opposing teams in one game. I think 2 had been kicked by the same kicker in an NFL game once. Those are the only instances of multiple 60 yarders in the same game in football history.

K balls have made a larger impact than people are mentioning. We should go back to just kicking the game ball.
