I don’t get why everyone (Bama fans or opposing fans) is making such a massive deal out of this. It’s business. Eli is a legend and I think most people appreciate everything he did in his great career. I think most people who have really taken the time to listen to him over the last few years would also find that he’s lost a few steps as a broadcaster. His contract is up in June and the two sides couldn’t agree on how to move forward so UA decided to just part ways. Simple as that. As legendary as Eli is, the radio broadcast is still part of the business and sometimes business is tough.

Im surprised tRant did not post about our social media video guy getting the boot on week 1 of the DeBoer era… as obsessed as you all are.

Eli needs to pipe down. I think when this was first announced and the way Eli got hold of the media, sure Alabama looked bad.
But a lot of folks don't know when they hired him to take over for John Forney he did BASKETBALL games, too. But Eli had been making a ton of money doing NASCAR-- live races, weekly shows, etc. After about Alabama re-did his contract and let him just do football and no basketball.
This isn't a good look for Eli. Go do your Nashville Kats games, settle down and come back at halftime in 2025 for a nice presentation at the UTChattanooga game.

That's what I used to say about Mark Richt.

What was he supposed to do? Lie about it.
I mean it sounds like he wanted to work and supposedly he has a job lined up already. So he was supposed to say he was retiring, but immediately take another job. People were gonna ask him about it.
I mean I guess if it makes people feel better you can say "we agreed to part ways", like the Pats and Bill B. did, but does anyone really think that's what happened? If he's lying about what was said, the university certainly can call him out on it.

This is such a bizarre obsession.

Did Scott Howard even learn to pronounce Tua Tagovailoa's name? I heard he got a lot better at it after 2nd and 26.

How many threads need to be started about a damn radio guy?

Yes, bizarre. Guy calling games for more than three and a half decades during the greatest run in Bama history is fired. Beloved announcer. Voice of the Tide. And someone on an SEC board posts about it.
I'm sure it would've only been discussed on Georgia boards if UGA had decided to give Larry Munson the pink slip at 70.
Heck, lots of Tennessee fans don't even like Bob K. and I'm sure it would've been talked about by most in the SEC if he were driven out.
Weird fans we got here. Weird I tell ya.

Scott is not beloved. If you went up to most Georgia fans and told them Scott was not good, they would agree with you.
That was not the case with EG before his firing. He was beloved. Heck, when Finebaum called them out for only letting him do home games last year all of you were saying it was health related, Eli wanted it and Finebaum was stirring up trouble. Now Eli is saying that he was told to do home games only. It wasn't his idea.

Yes, I'm sure Fred or Ray or Harvey or whatever that guy's name is was just as well known as Eli Gold.

Frankly, he comes across as arrogant in his speech and tone. John Forney, Larry Munson, Jack Cristil, John Ferguson, and Jim Fyffe, in the SEC, were more than radio announcers. They were the heartbeat of the football team.
Let's see some threads on icons of the game that did what they did better than most. I know, crickets.

Those guys all started when you could only watch a few select games on TV. Some of the biggest games weren't televised due to the NCAA limiting TV contracts.
I think TV has killed those kind of guys because these guys today don't really nail down describing the whole setting and action because they know 90 percent of those listening to them are also watching it.
Before he left the booth to battle cancer, Gold's call on Bower's TD in the 2021 season CFP championship game was terrible.
It was 3rd and one. He said they passed to Bowers. Then said there was a flag that he thought would be on Georgia. Then said he may be wishful thinking.
Then the ref came on and said the flag was on Bama and that it was a TD. That was the first time anyone not watching the game would've known Bowers scored. I guess you would've assumed he at least go the first down, but you were never told that.
I understand he maybe was not good of late. But I don't understand why Bama fans, Finebaum, and others are now upset with him telling people the truth. That he didn't want to quit and they only offered him the A day game. I mean would anyone believe that he decided to leave Bama for the better offer of the Arena Football League?

Why the frick would I care about who calls games for a team I don't root for on a broadcast I don't listen to?

Yeah, non-Bama fans are getting really fricking weird about Eli Gold.

I guess Saban ripping their hearts out one last time on his way out the door isn't sitting well. The OP is a consistent retard, but seems especially ruffled today for some reason.

Because he's done it for 3 plus decades. It's in the news. It's talked about on sports talk shows. It's the off season. It was kind of a surprise. It's not the norm for a guy who has worked that long at a school.
We're all weird. Only the Bammers have it all together. I wish we were more like you guys. But hey, we can't all be perfect. ROLL DAMN TIDE!!!!
