A problem with compound fracture can be infection. That is what happened to Prothro.

No worse than Prothro or Brown from USM...

Umm... Joe Theismann and Tyrone Prothro never played again. Deandre Brown did, but I'm not sure I get the point of saying "No worse than...". That was gruesome. I just hope the kid walks again.

I am recovering from a car accident. Broken Femur, tibia and pelvis. Metal rods permanently installed in my upper and lower leg. Multiple rods in pelvis. Still recovering and it sucks....

Only comparable injury I have seen was playing high school soccer. Kid snapped his shin in half and his bone was comming out through the skin. Thankfully this kid was able to play soccer in college, but he did have to sit out nearly 12 months. Hopefully this kid will be back to playing ball one day too.

No. No he won't. He will never play basketball again. He will walk with a limp the rest of his life.

A former Louisville player had the same kind of injury 2 years ago in an overseas league. He is still a professional basketball player.

ETA: Edgar Sosa is his name.

Pitino just said that it was the same injury Michael Bush suffered when he was at Louisville. Said it'll take about a year before he's able to play again.

It looked like a fairly clean break, although Pitino just said that it broke in to places. As long as infection doesn't set it, it should be fine.

Prothro's was his leg also

Yeah, but two different types of fractures here.

Nearly identical injury. Open compund fracture of the tibia and fibula. Infection ruined Prothro's recovery.

Deandre Brown from USM also had the same injury (not sure if the bones pierced the skin in his case) but he recovered successfully.

Prayers for the Kevin Ware. It will be a very long and difficult recovery for him.
