that stopped them from going back to college semi pro football. The NCAA messed this up, not Lane Train.

They can still sue for loss of opportunities and potential income. Especially when the SEC ruling is not even applied consistently. They're not being punished because they got paid, they were already being paid in college. They're not being punished because they tried or wanted to join the NFL, in fact almost all of them did. They're being punished only if they were successful at getting a camp invite and signing a small short term contract, which they very well may not have done if they initially had the opportunity to play another season in college. If they didn't get decent offers because they weren't good enough, then they're fine to return according to the SEC statement. I wouldn't feel confident about defending the SEC's ham-fisted handling of this issue in court.

The argument is that if the players in question had the 5 for 5 rule in place, they would have stayed in college football

They can go play for some G5 shitter.
They are not entitled to enrollment at whatever school they demand. They still have to be enrolled in school. Maybe lsu will challenge that next.

Nobody said they were. But why aren't they entitled to enroll at schools that want them? If they had been included in the new 5 for 5 rule they would've been allowed to enroll in SEC schools. Or even if they didn't sign a NFL contract because they didn't receive an acceptable offer, they're allowed to sign with an SEC school. What's the SEC's logic or principle here? There is none, their policy is selective and arbitrary.

They could have stayed in college and got their degree. They chose to try and play NFL football. They made that decision. They can still go back and get their degree.

The actual adults in the room at LSU voted in agreement with the SEC. The people responsible for compliance and admissions at LSU are in agreement with the SEC. The attorneys, Lane, gov. Landry (lol) and LSU fans are seething.
