The only impact Alabama had on Richts being fired, or asked to leave or whatever it was, was the 2012 SEC CG. Had he won that he’d still be at UGA. It wasn’t one game without some baggage though....had he not also had 10 years or so with at least 1 inexplicable loss he’d still be at UGA.
UGA keeps coaches longer than most schools. Unless things go way South way fast last season bought Smart at least 8-10 without a natty in my opinion. I think it’s more likely another program makes him an offer he can’t refuse. UGA fans have suffered about every kind of indignity except that....losing a coach we want to keep to another program is almost as UGA as losing a natty on a walkoff homerun on 2nd and 26 in overtime.
All of that being said I think we compete for a few nattys in the next 10 years. I think last season may have honed the program to the edge needed to win it all soon. Had we won it last year it’d have been far better but the silver lining is that it should’ve kept everyone hungry instead of fat and happy.
Saban is a beast. They aren’t common...in fact he may well be heads and shoulders better than anyone ever. Being in the east we don’t have to face that but every 7 years or so. Mathematically meeting Bama in the SEC CG is pretty certain BUT we didn’t last season. Playing Saban at the end of the regular season is slightly easier than after a months prep for 2 of 3 teams. Anyone in the SEC is more likely to beat Bama in SEC CG than in a national title game simply because it’s played with more injuries etc. Meeting Bama again in the title game, even as often as Bama goes, is unlikely. LSU and Auburn have to play that beast every year. Trying to find a way to best Saban is their lot in life EVERY season. UGA has enough on its plate trying to right things with Florida, keeping UT at bay and SC in their place.

I agree with the gump. Georgia is snake bit in regards to championships.

Seriously, why do they even care? It's funnier than UF fans saying stars don't matter.

Kirby could be Richt part 2

You certainly hope so.

Bama will show Kirby their back door next season, and every season thereafter until he retires with a larger, more proportionally headed statue than CNS

Kirby and staff get the chance to show they can coach and motivate a team that has had success. Nick and staff couldn't get it done at Bama in 2010.

What I'm trying to say here baws, is don't get all butt-hurt when Kirby doesn't even make the SEC Championship game.
Ok... we all do it. Our team has a great season and then we expect our team to do even better the next season and for the forseeable future. But the next season is fraught with the things that can potentially hit your team (injuries, lackadaisacal play, overlooking, in your case, teams like Tennessee and Florida, drama, etc.) -- that didn't hit them in that magical unicorn season.
Then, the next you know, your fan base is all over the coach and making insane demands like: you guys had that season, so you should be able to now keep up with (name your legendary coach -- ok, I'll go with Nick Saban here) Nick Saban.
I'm just saying, Georgia fans, don't hit the panic button. Kirby is a fine coach. He'll do well. He will win SEC Championships -- Mark Richt did -- but as long as Nick Saban is over at Alabama, you'll only be able to win the big games if you're lucky and Bama has another one of those 2010 seasons, which if you think about it, is virtually impossible.
Think about it. With the playoffs now and with Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, Bama is virtually assured of being there -- SEC Champion or not. With Auburn getting a serious consideration of getting in with 2 losses, you KNOW Bama will now get that same benefit of doubt.
And when Bama gets in the playoffs after having a month off and their baws getting to heal up, your chances go down absymally. But, best of luck baws. I will be cheering Georgia on when they're not playing Bama or when your fans are not making ridiculous claims that they can take Bama.
Ok, at least give me points for not saying "we" and "us". I'm just a fan. Not a member of the team. Just an interested fan who loves the SEC. Rmft.

My friend, you have the proper perspective. And I know DawgsLife is being facetious but his perspective is spot on as well.

You were a blown coverage from losing it last year..
It happens.

UGA wont fire a coach who is competing year in and year end for conference titles and occasionally making the playoffs. He won an SEC title in year 2 and lost in OT to Bama in the natty. He is crootin at a high level so I doubt he lays any eggs soon. He would have to do a UT to get canned anytime soon
Posted on 8/18/18 at 8:18 am to RollDawgRoll
Richt recruited well, but not as well as Kirby. Plus Kirby has a much easier schedule year in and year out than Bama or AU. East is shite. UF will take a while to rebuild, who knows UT ever will, leaving Boom as the only threat, and SC will never have the top-to-bottom talent. UGA should fire Kirby's arse if he DOESNT win a natty in the next 2 years. It's all laid out for him.

Conventional wisdom says that but I think all he has to do is do a OU (Big Game Bob) or a Mark Richt to get the can. Sure, those play out longer but man they can make a fanbase grow bitter and have that carry into their lives which is really sad.

And this is exactly how I think it will play out. Be patient, Georgia fans. Be VERY patient.

The Rev Mark Richt had a state full of talent and he landed most of them. He had more players arrested in his stay at UGA than any coach in the country not named Urban. Mark's players might have liked him but no way did they fear him thus discipline was his problem. As the HC you can't be a Buddy to those players. I do think Mark is a good coach.
