Didn't Cali and Texas grow in Football success?
No, the opposite.
Between 1951 and 1975; 25 years; California and Texas schools won 7 AP national championships. Florida schools won zero.
Between 1976 and 2000; 25 years; California and Texas schools won 0 AP national championships. Florida schools won 6 AP national championships.
The results were the opposite.

I guess we tried to get in on the market and Miami ratted us out.

See the population of Florida and you will have a very, very, very clear answer. Three Major schools in the State as well to split talent upon.
Since 1960 to US population has grown 63 percent..Florida has grown by 224 percent. Seems very, very, very simple...

I typed it all out already, I can’t make you read it.
Other states also had exponential population growth. But the teams there did not see the success that the Florida schools did. If population growth was the sole answer Texas schools should have seen an increase in success during that same time frame. They didn’t, they saw a decrease.

Neither California nor Texas grew by 143% in that timeframe.
Which other state more than doubled its population?

Having been to Miami and been to a few Miami games...all of them. All Miami fans are on cocaine above 5 years old.

Nevada grew 245% between 1970 and 1990. Population grew by 2.5x in 20 years.
Arizona grew by 210% between 1970 and 1990. Population more than doubled in 20 years.
Florida grew by 191% between 1970 and 1990, adding 6.2 million people.
Texas grew by 151% between 1970 and 1990, adding 5.8 million people.
California grew 141% between 1970 and 1990, adding 9.8 million people.
Georgia also grew 141% between 1970 and 1990.
If population size was the sole answer, why didn’t California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois; the highest population states in 1980; dominate college football during the 70s and 80s?

Meh.Georgia had tremendous population growth in that time and a huge increase in the number of prospects but many of those players ended up helping UT,Clemson,Auburn,Bama and FSU win NC's and it didn't work out for UGA till Kirby
All the instate talent works if you have the right coach at the right time.

Look at (outside of QB and kicker) who made the Florida teams great. They weren’t migrants. They had been there all along. Something just made them take football seriously and then commit to Florida, FSU, or Miami.
South FL has always had and still have a very serious youth football culture. I've always thought that separated them from other places.

The Miami guys behind Canesinsight believe that the ATL metro area has overtaken south FL in terms of talent and that's due to migration.

The only states in Florida's scenario had 1.3M and 3.5M people respectively. In other words, comparably tiny states even compared to Florida.

If population size was the sole answer
I don't see anyone saying it was the sole reason. That's a strawman.

This is what I was debating.

That is not plural, population is the answer.
Sure, that is a reason, but not the main reason. Or even in the top 3.
The reason Florida got so much better was Bobby Bowden landed at Florida State in the 70’s and had some success. That forced the other two schools to got serious about football around 1980. And that cost money. And that money came from boosters. Who may or may not have been cocaine cowboys.

You're arguing something nobody said.

Uh sure.

Or population because AC became affordable and people moved here in mass.
Posted on 4/1/26 at 10:44 am to Gatorbait2008
It is funny that Florida fans are arguing Florida got better simply by chance. Arguing against the idea that it is because they got serious about it; investing more money, hiring better coaches, actually working to get better.
If it is primarily about population, why did Florida suddenly become a trash football program? Did everyone move out of Florida?

The better question is how much of the semen you consume, is from a relative.

They certainly have experience doing it in soccer.
quote:
Testimony during Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's trial revealed that his Sinaloa Cartel used drug money to purchase multiple Mexican professional soccer teams. While a total, aggregate amount spent on soccer was not finalized, specific investments and costs mentioned include:
Club Purchases: A trafficker working for the cartel, Tirso Martínez Sánchez ("El Futbolista"), testified to buying teams such as Club de Fútbol La Piedad and Venados de Yucatan.
Specific Team Costs: The Venados club in Mérida was purchased for between US $600,000 and $700,000, and the Reboceros club in La Piedad was bought for US $2.2 million.
Profit on Sale: Martinez later sold the La Piedad club for $10 million in 2004, claiming a $4 million net profit after paying off employees.
Wider Influence: These teams were acquired using profits from distributing drugs in the United States, and the Mexican Football Federation eventually bought out Martinez's interests in 2006 for $10 million after discovering the link to drug trafficking.
In addition to directly buying teams, it was also revealed that El Chapo maintained a monthly corruption budget of over $1 million to influence authorities
