How so? I simply pointed out what LSU has done. LSU has three Heisman winners. The jerseys of the two white winners have never been worn again, while the Black winner’s jersey has. If acknowledging that difference is racist, then wouldn’t the more obvious question be why LSU treats those players differently in the first place? If race is what makes the observation offensive, maybe the criticism should be directed at the institution making the distinction, not the person pointing it out.

Instead of explaining that difference, you jumped straight to calling me racist because I’m an Ole Miss fan with ‘Rebel’ in my name.

So would having ‘Tiger’ in my name make me racist too? LSU’s ‘Fighting Tigers’ nickname has also been associated with Civil War-era Louisiana military units. If simply using ‘Rebel’ is enough to label someone racist because of historical associations, explain why that same standard wouldn’t apply to ‘Fighting Tigers.’

Only Billy Cannon's number has been retired. It's the only number LSU has retired in football period. It was done in 1960. AT the time, he was the only Heisman winner in school history and the leader on LSU's only, at the time, consensus national title team in 1958.

No one has requested to wear Joe Burrow's #9 since 2019, so the issue hasn't come up. But his number isn't retired. Burrow even said when asked about it that no one had asked to wear it and if they did, things change. He didn't seem bothered at all by the idea of someone else wearing #9 at LSU because it isn't that serious.

But if you want to discuss the difference between Burrow and Daniels, sure. Burrow went undefeated and won a national title, while Daniels didn't. Fair or not, winning a national title adds a lot of points to a QB's legacy. Add to that, Burrow embraced the community while at LSU (see his Heisman trophy speech and his "Burreaux" jersey on senior day as a couple of examples). His family also embraced the LSU community, while Daniels' family did not and has not. He also continues to come back and still does a lot of charity work in the Baton Rouge community. Daniels does not. They're just not the same.

That said, had Daniels not done what he did last week, his and Burrow's jerseys would have eventually been retired. LSU just doesn't do that quickly. Of all the jerseys that have been retired since Billy cannon, it has taken between 38-56 years for that to happen. Daniels just played at LSU 3 years ago.

LSU has an athletic department policy as of 2007 that no new numbers will ever be taken out of circulation and retired in any sport. Jerseys will just be honored.

I want to believe that it was just his team fricking him over and he doesn't know how to reign them in and do PR.

Sure, it would be real easy to say "I never authorized that restriction on my NIL, and the team member who did so in my name has been fired." But what if it's like his uncle or something? Or what if he's being handled by some idiot.

Probably just me wanting to find the best in people. He's probably the source of the tantrum or at least agrees with the action. But I'd like to think not.
