Remember when Alabama had either 4 or five teams that had a bye before playing them? Can’t remember the year but back when ADs had more say about their schedule, all of them wanted the week off before playing Alabama. Saban era.
Here are the numbers for 2024.
4 SEC teams get a bye before playing:
Alabama*(tuscaloosa corrected me to four)
3 SEC teams get a BYE before playing:
LSU
UGA
OU
2 SEC teams get a BYE before playing:
Aand M
Missouri
Texas
Mississippi
Florida
1 SEC teams get a by before playing:
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
MSU
Arky
Zero SEC teams get a bye before playing:
TENNESSEE
AUBURN
SOUTH CAROLINA

It’s not an end all/be all stat.
But it’s good to know which teams will have two weeks to prepare/rest before playing your team.
Personally, I think it should be two per school across the board.
I think the sec will Work on that.
This is different kind of year as we have two byes.

Like LSU-Alabama almost every year, Texas and OU each have a bye before their game this year (as opposed to after)
Arkansas gets an extra week to froth at the mouth before playing Texas. Great...

Alabama had 6 in 2010.
South Carolina
Ole Miss
Tennessee
LSU (has had byes for both Alabama and LSU for as long as I can remember)
Mississippi State
Auburn

This kinda almost cancels out because 2 of the teams that have a bye before our game, we also have the bye.
So essentially only 1 team (MSU) has a bye before us while we have a game. That's honestly not too bad.

Good point,
But I didn’t feel like going back over that to see a “wash” list.
There is still a disparity.
You automatically know that Tenn and Aub have a positive disparity.

Thank you.
I stand corrected.

It only goes back to Nick Saban. Before that LSU used to play Mississippi the last weekend of October and Alabama the first weekend of November (generally).

No "official" BYE...but
Alabama plays Vanderbilt and South Carolina before playing Tennessee...which is essentially back-to-back byes.
Florida has: Mississippi State, BYE, UCF leading up to UT...so essentially 3 weeks off.
Mississippi State has Arkansas and UMASS leading up to UT...so another 3 weeks to prepare.
Oklahoma has Tulane at home the week before Tennessee...
Vandy is the only one who plays a really hard opponent...playing at LSU the week before UT.

It's not as bad as it sounds.

So UGA and the Sooners get 2 weeks to prepare for Bama?
The REC is losing control

you have to compare that with the disparity that Auburn and Tennessee have two weeks off before Their games (granted Auburn gets a week off before a go5 team

But still, three or four teams getting a week off before your game with them is waaaaay different than zero.
Would you agree?

It’s idiotic for you to think Miss freaking State can look at Arkansas as a BYE week.

We lost to 3 of the 4 that had a pulse that year

If any SEC school deserves a breather schedule-wise, it’s Auburn, which has traditionally played the hardest conference schedule for decades.

Pretty sure it was 2010. We played 6 SEC teams in a row coming off of byes.

we play the best two teams in College Football for like the 5th year in a row so I don’t feel too guilty
