From elsewhere:

Michigan
Ohio State
USC (eventually)
Florida State
Washington
Oregon

Who am I glaringly missing?
Clemson

I'd say Penn State, Miami, Notre Dame, maybe someone like Arizona could hit the "eventually" part. Auburn, and potentially A&M in the SEC also fit that.

Would be interesting to see the aforementioned teams literally in a league of their own.
As a fan, I would absolutely hate that. All that would happen is those teams would beat each other up to establish a pecking order, and whoever falls behind would drop off, because they can no longer compete. It's often said the worst team in the NFL would destroy the best team in college... but the worst team in the NFL doesn't play college or UFL teams, they only play other NFL teams and have an awful record to show for it. The same thing would happen if you group all the college powers together.

I thought about Clemson. Briefly. It’s over for them. Also, lol at the big mad Tennessee fans…they haven’t been paying attention for awhile I guess.

ND played for a NC in 2012 (I know they got murdered) and has two CFP appearances. Penn State has the resources to win the NC in my opinion.

If you put them in based on your criteria, then you would have to include Clemson.

Maybe even Wisconsin and UNC (for resources and future potential)

I get you are Bama fan level dumb, but Auburn will compete for championships sooner rather than later.

What is your definition of "sooner than later"? Auburn has had losing seasons the last 3 years in a row. It's been 11 years since Auburn would have qualified for the playoffs with a 12 team system.
Maybe Freeze can get things turned around, but how much time do you think it will take?

Given the rate Hugh is stocking the cupboard I think we’re still a season or two away, but next year I think we’re probably in the playoff conversation.

I think this year will be another building year but better than last year.

The number is incredibly small…I would say from our conference (in no particular order):

Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida(eventually)

If they've recently done it, how do you not put them in?

The barn has been to 2 national championship games during the Nick Saban era.

Washington doesn't get enough elite recruiting without a great head coach so that is almost impossible. The Barn recruits top 10. Washington around 30th.

Oregon has been on that stage before and got beat by Auburn. So there's that.

Recently, College Football HQ, a fellow-affiliate of Sports Illustrated, ranked college football's 10 "likely first-time playoff teams" in 2024, and not only did the Rebels make the list, but they were the No. 1 team on the docket

Are the Ole Miss Rebels staring a golden opportunity in the face in the 2024 season?

but perhaps the biggest note for the Rebels is the return of quarterback Jaxson Dart and his top target in Tre Harris. Football (especially at the college level) is still very much a "quarterback game," and Ole Miss has a veteran under center in Dart.

Dart is entering his third year in Kiffin's offense, and for the first time since he arrived in Oxford, he is the unquestioned starter in the offseason after leading Ole Miss to an 11-2 finish in 2023

There’s about a dozen.

The schools interchange based on coaching. Florida, USC, LSU are all Great examples. All have been elite with the right coach, and have been bad with wrong hires. There are about a dozen schools that have the actual resources and recruiting to be national champions with the right coach.

I see your point but I think a team like this year's Ole Miss team could eventually do it by just winning high scoring games against the most talented teams.

and Louisville with Lamar was still a middle of the road 9-3 team who LSU shoved in a locker during the bowl game

Ole Miss has a legitimate shot to win the national championship in 2024 but this is your one chance.
