Instead of paying them $1 million to sign with your school, you just pay them $1 million to "sign your football"

What does NIL stand for?

It's not. Opens up a way for boosters to give kids a crazy amount of money in the open and the NCAA can't do squat about it.

What is the significance of either scenario to you?

It's has to be fair market value and boosters can't initiate NIL.

Of course, sounds airtight

So, what do you think is going to change then? These players are already getting money under the table. If a player gets some crazy amount of money to sign a football, then it's just another impermissible benefit. What changes?

So you don't think NIL will have any effect on cfb? Nice take smooth brain

So you care about people who an important thing to you by opposing and lamenting their compensation? Care means "must not get paid"? Please help me understand this care.

Seriously man you need to take a break. Don't watch football this fall, enjoy the outdoors or something. Let the wrinkles iron out first before making bombastic statements. Honestly some of y'all are starting to sound like haters screaming the sky is falling every other day.

Be sure schools aren’t paying them?

NIL allows them to rightfully profit from their NIL whereas paying a player would be a financial nightmare for a school

Comes down to who's writing the checks. While there's a lot of money flowing through college football, it's a really good bet that none of the stakeholders are going to be willing to reduce or forgo their piece of the pie. So, if the school is paying the kids, some combination of booster contributions, TV revenue, or ticket prices is going to have to increase.
OTOH, if the kids go directly to the free market themselves, that problem is solved as well as other problems around which players are worth more to the team (very dynamic with 18 - 23 year olds). Also, the school avoids thorny issues around non-revenue sports and Title IX.
