Yeah, I can understand that, and at the end of the day, there is no difference between #2 and #5. They aren't #1 but they are all Top 5..

Coaches don't watch football games except for teams they play. They don't keep up with teams they don't play. They have no clue outside the teams on their schedule. Which most only play two or three top25 teams. So I guess you can say coaches guess on the other 22 teams for the poll.
Coaches say it all time about how they don't watch games.
"Don't have the time to watch games, focused on our game this week"

You mean every coaches assistant SID? I’m sure the head coach tells them to do it and just run it by them before they submit. They probably all look at it for 10 seconds and say ok

If I were Nick Saban, the next time I play Kentucky, Florida, Missouri and A&M, I going to let the water boys score as time runs out.
On the other hand, against Butch Jones, I'd start my second team in at the end of the 1st quarter.

Kirby knows we did not have a championship level defense.
Having said that, Washington's defense was worse than ours and they did not match up well with Michigan on offense or defense.
I think Texas and Georgia would have matched up better with Michigan on offense and defense.
We probably would not have won the game but I am confident that we would have scored more that 13 points.

From what I hear is most coaches don’t compile their list, they have someone do it from them, look it over and say “looks good to me, send it”

To get a leg-up, wasn't it Kirby who implemented 'Bama' routines and processes when he arrived in Athens? Didn't they say some of the hard copies still had the Alabama logo / name on them?
Guess this means Kirby isn't you're kind of 'coaching material'.
