Freeman made the safer choice. He could have ended up fired with O at the end of the 2021 season. Notre Dame is a stable program and he'll have a chance to put together a couple of good defenses there playing against lower level competition. If he does that successfully, then he'll be head coach at Cincinnati or somewhere else in a few years.
