People who say this have no business giving an opinion. Let's say you are building your NFL team, you know everything about these 3 guys that you know now. And let's say Bo never gets injured, give me your draft order of Walker, Campbell, Jackson...

3.
This will tell you what you need to know.

Herschel, Earl, and Bo were the Top 3 in that order.
All were great so the difference to me is how much they could carry their team.
Herschel won a Natty and was the UGA offense, had he come back his Sr year UGA probably wins another Natty.
Earl's Sr year for Texas he was unstoppable but with the Natty on the line he rushed for 116 on 29 carries and didn't score against ND and Texas went down. A decent performance for sure but still he came up short.
Bo was the greatest freak of an athlete of all time and had some amazing games. I was at his last one though after he won the Heisman and the original A&M Wrecking Crew stopped him cold twice with 1st and Goal where they ran him 4 straight times.
Henry is probably 4th.
A&M has 3 RB's that might be considered toward the back of the Top 10.
John David Crow won the Heisman but was known for being a great 2 way player and was an All Pro as a LB in the NFL.
John Kimbrough led A&M to that '39 Title and finished 2nd in the Heisman in both '39 and '40 but that was too far back.
Darren Lewis tore up the SWC and ran for 5000 yards in the late '80s (when 5k was extremely rare because they played fewer games) for A&M and was the All Time SWC leading rusher.

That’s not the question. This is in regards to college athletics.

There is NFL talk in this discussion. In every all time list, they always talk about what they went on to do in the NFL

Certainly, Sims.
I agree on Dupree. Arik Gilbert is blazing a path along those same lines.

The all time favorite argument for Bo fanboys. He gets a "what if" pass more than any other athlete ever.

Earl Campbell, AD, and Ricky Williams are taking 3 spots somewhere in the top 10.

Then lets say Walker never talks to an agent and gets to play a 4th year. Or that he signs with an NFL team instead of taking more money from the USFL and doesn't waste his prime years there. We can all play the "what if" game to make our favorite player look better.

Then keep Bo's injury...what's your 3 picks?

quote:I agree Henry should be up there. But so should LF7. Henry and LF7 are 1 & 2 all time single season (both ahead of Walker). Career LF7 is 16th, Henry is 22nd. If Henry is up there, LF7 should be too.
Henry is the SEC's single season rushing record holder, and you don't even include him in the top 10.
And you called him a system runningback and he holds records on every level and every team he has played on

Earl & Ricky Williams are in the top 10 if they are counted as SEC RBs. Cedric Benson had an insane college career. Priest Holmes had some of the best statistical seasons for any NFL RB, and kept Nebraska from winning 4 national titles in a row. Jamaal Charles did what many thought was impossible and broke Jim Brown's NFL yards per carry record for RBs.

Earl Campbell top 3, and I'm a hogfan. Maybe it's because I'm a hogfan. Earl had some great games against us.

Sure, in your opinion. You won't find many non longhorn fans who agree with you though.
