Many times throughout the season Alabama's seconday would get carved up when the QB was not being sacked or flushed. Alabamas dline was so good last year that no one had time to test the secondary, but when they did it was down right abysmal. So do y'all expect anbig improvement this year or no?

I think they were pretty young so I expect some experience will help them

Considering there was only one returning starter last year they played pretty well but I expect they’ll be much better this year.

This is a lame troll. Not once in your rant of knowledge did you acknowledge the fact that the secondary was new. This, when the entire pre-season leading up to the Louisville game was discussed ad nauseam by the national media. Not to mention, it was discussed throughout the season here on the SEC RANT.

Now, despite their lack of game time and inexperience, they still managed to give up less yards per game passing than your veteran defensive secondary with one of the best d-lines in football.

I'd say their youth mixed with national championship experience (something LSU can't sniff) will put them in a better position this coming season than you.

Weird huh?

Surtain was solid throughout the year but got worked when he went up against Hollywood Brown and Justyn Ross. Could be just that he was a freshman but he had trouble with receivers that got physical with him.

Brown didn't have a catch the entire game, or maybe 1... Either way, Surtain got worked in a couple of games. I fully expect him to be better, and they get Diggs back.

Damn that's my mistake. I just went and double-checked - 0 catches. Lamb was the one who had a big game. Not sure who was covering him most of the time though.

If I was a Bama fan I wouldn't be too concerned. Their version of a "below average" secondary would still rival most other good teams

I think the secondary is gonna be great.

Returning starters in Diggs, McKinney, Carter and Surtain is gonna be huge with inexperience that will be in the front 7...gonna miss D Thompson but thank God Saivon Smith is gone

Is Savion done? Obviously a secondary's best friend is a great pass rush. Alabama obviously had that. I expect Surtain to take a huge leap forward. Still can't believe he's not suiting up in the P&G. Bama will always have 4 five stars starting in the secondary for the most part.

Lol no

First off, I truly don't think he was trolling, we all saw Alabama's secondary, at times, struggled. Which is honestly completely uncommon.

Secondly, Alabama's young secondary wasn't really talked about much in the entire preseason, the main thing talked about with Alabama was if Tua was going to win the Heisman.

Third, LSUs secondary battled injuries all year, and is also pretty inexperienced. John Battle, Delpit, and Greedy were mainly the only ones with real playing time before this season and we all know John Battle was pretty bad.

I think the question was mainly based off of the fact that normally Bamas secondary is insanely good, and this year they werent as good as past years.

I think our corners will be a strength next year; Diggs and Surtain should be solid on the outside and Shyheim Carter was excellent down the stretch at the slot. Outside of McKinney, not sure of our safeties...

Yeah I really don't know how he thought I was trolling? I was asking an honest question. A question that many bama fans would know more I I do on the subject. I really don't think their is a single Alabama fan on this board that believed Alabama's secondary was even remotely up to par with those of the past. Alabama's d-line was absolutely rutheless last year. One of the best they have ever had. No QB except trevor Lawrence had more than 2-3 seconds on average to scan their options and plant their foot in the pocket to deliver an accurate pass. If the opponents QB can't get a clean pocket all game, your secondary numbers will look great no matter how bad it is.

LSUs Secondary is down right better than Alabama's last year, and this year. Our dLine was young and average at best, and we we're missing our starting edge rusher all year long. We return the #1 safety in the country grant delpit, a top 3 round safety in Jacoby Stevens, a 1st-2nd round CB in Kristian Fulton (higher PFF than greedy Williams and was on par with DeAndre Baker in his first full season as a starter), a freshman CB that is the highest rated CB to ever come out of HS in Derek stingley JR. So LSUs secondary will be phenomenal next year.

It will only be as good as the refs let them be.

We replaced our entire dime package from last season. Thompson and Diggs combined for a few starts but outside of them there wasn't much experience. It was expected to be a weakness and then we lost Diggs for the season.

Losing Thompson hurts but with Diggs back and Surtain with a season under his belt I think we're in better shape next season.

So just to sum up, Bama:
-lost our entire secondary besides our FS to the draft
-lost our starter at CB (Diggs) for the season
-Another starter at safety (Wright)
-Lost a 1st round pass rusher (Lewis)
-Another early round DE (Buggs)
-Another perimeter starter at OLB (Miller)
-Had depth injuries to other perimeter rushers (Allen, Mosley)
-After losing multiple 1st rounders to the draft last year

And you are wanting to know why our secondary was suspect against elite offenses?

Bama was never going to have a top 5 historic Saban defense last year, but the incredible attrition to the draft on top of injuries made it a shell of previous units by the Clemson game.

Secondary will be very good, but avg relative to other Bama units. DB group should be lights out (Surtain/Diggs), safeties will be solid but not elite (Mayden/Carter).
