Ask UGA or Bama fans if they give a shite about not winning the SEC in 2021 and 2017.

10 YEARS???

Just like the good old days. Conference records, extensive tiebreakers covering ties.

In the good old days, there weren't 16-teams in the SEC. The schedule makers will be under some serious pressure.

No but it was even worse back then. 12 teams (until GT and Tulane left) but only 5 conference games. No conference title game. And the schools themselves were in charge of scheduling until the 80s.

After a few years with 3 or 4 teams with the same 8-0 conference records and no losses to outside teams the bitching will be so bad that a 10 game schedule will look good.

There will no longer be divisions (thankfully).
Yes, and with that teams will no longer be able to play their way in to the CG. Instead we will choose the two combatants by arbitrary measures. Get ready to see the same 3-4 teams in the CG for the next 10-15 yrs.

How can you base it off conference record when you don't even play half the conference?
Eight is not half of 16?

1. Conference record only. 7-1 is better than 6-2.
2. Same conference record? We will use the SEC method of tiebreaking, the one we've used since 1992. Head-to-head is first tiebreaker. Then, it is record against the SEC teams ranked 3-16 in order. Example: LSU and OU are tied at 7-1 behind 8-0 State (!!!). Florida is the next team in the final rankings. LSU beat FLa and OU did not play UF. LSU wins the tie. If record against UF doesn't break the tie, you go down one more rank to OMiss and so forth.

So based on your example, OU gets screwed because they didn't play UF?
But perhaps they played a much stronger SEC schedule than LSU, how is that fair? Schedule strength could vary greatly in a 16-team conference.
Also there's a strong likelihood for multiple teams tied with the addition of 4 teams since 1992. I can envision a hypothetical with two or more teams tied for 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Based on your example, there will need to be tiebreakers for the tiebreakers.
Example: Teams A, B, C are all tied for 2nd with a 6-2 record. None played each other or the 1st place team (likely why they're in contention). Four teams tied for 4th with 4-4 records. How do you break the tie?
It's obvious to me that in a 16-team league with no division and unbalanced schedules, we will need a semifinal round of games or go back to divisions.

This isn’t something you will need to worry about.

I agree it’s going to be a strange year. That being said even if gauging the conference championship participants is questionable that year at least the playoff will have expanded to 12. If you’re on the outside of the SEC CG talk you will still be in the playoffs.

You can't base it on conference records as schedules will be apples and oranges and the sample size of 8-games is insufficient.
gee, i wonder how the SEC ever crowned a conference champ these past 100 years….
like others said, you needn’t worry as this doesnt concern you now OR then.

Finally someone on here sees the light! LSU doesnt sniff the CG last season without divisions. OT win over Bama last season doesnt mean squat without divisions.

Wrong. This is only in place for 1 year.

Misery has played in the SEC CG twice for crying out loud!
In 2013 Missouri finished #5 in the nation and had a legitimately good team.
In 2014, they were not nearly as good, but still finished #16 in the nation.
Texas finished unranked both seasons.
