What’s going on at Missouri? Mind boggling

It wouldn't nearly as funny if their basketball program hadn't been the ONE thing they crowed about making waves in conference on the way in.

Based on history I get it, but boy we did not get what we thought we were in that regard.

The only slightly rational explanation is a combination of the following:
1) we did lose a reasonable amount of talent from last year and had a couple of injuries. That shouldn’t have resulted in a winless conference seasons, but I expected to be below .500 in league play.
2) He was hired by our AD who kinda left before she was fired. His wife was good friends with that AD. I imagine the politics and power struggles played havoc with the coaching staff overall. The personal element added probably added more stress.
3) The team doesn’t like each other. It’s a brand new team and there’s little team chemistry.

Gates is coaching for his job next year. He needs to keep his highly-rated FR class together and get two absolute studs in the portal to hope to save it.

His pal, Desiree Reed Francois, gave him a Texas A&M-sized buyout (currently at $25M). So he’s here at least through next year.

Next year? You mean, he isn’t gonna be fired. Wow.

They truly didn't even seem THAT bad to me. It simply defies logic how they couldn't win one game.

That’s the craziest thing about it. Most games they were very much in. They were just shitty enough to lose. It also didn’t matter the competition, in most cases. They would play better against better teams, to lose in the last five minutes. Then, when they played Vandy or arky, they would play like shite, but keep it close.

Baffling.

What a week that was. We still call it the Paige once in a while. Just for old time’s sake.

I thought he was a great get last year. I thought y'all would take a step back this year, but I was thinking step back as in misses the Big Dance but comes close.

To be honest I am not sure Gates, or Muss for that matter, are going to be able to adjust to the new reality of basketball as a major conference coach in terms of turning over your roster every year.
