yeah this could be the result of some friendly banter between employees. the crane operator could be retalitating, in a very innocent manner, to other workers(ATM/LSU/??? fans) on the job site.

If that what was taking place over a couple months, then he could have a claim for a wrongful termination suit.

At the very least, to fire him makes ATM look very petty.

A&M doesn't have the power to fire him.

The guy didn't work for A&M. He worked for a contractor hired by A&M. Here's a pretty good rule of thumb. Don't do anything on the job that pisses off the customer paying your bosses a shite ton of money.

For their part, Texas A&M could not confirm the firing, but the flag has been taken down and all is right in the world again.

And talk to the construction company, not TAMU.

Eta: previous two posters had it handled before my response.

You don't want the chance to have the story blow up in your face. For all we know the guy coudl be a US army veteran, have six kids, recovering from cancer, and be a loveable character. Just stay away from it.

eh, good guys and good workers make poor decisions all the time that get them fired. him being a vet or a good guy shouldn't bar him from being fired if someone else who committed a similar act would have been. honestly, if was the construction company, i wouldn't like to have an employee taking the time to hang a banner while i'm paying him to do a job.

doubtful. if he was doing this while on the clock, they could have fired him for cause for not doing the job he was being payed to do. it's not a wrongful termination to fire a guy for dicking around on the clock.

that too. i'd expect to be fired if i was hired to do work on something like Obama's summer house on the lake and hung a GOP banner from a fencepost. it's just common sense. this guy obviously did it for attention, and well, he got it.

The funny thing is, I bet there are a hundred Alabama law grads knocking the door down to sue the construction company and Texas A&M... watch it happen.

His arse deserved to be fired. I can't see how anyone could be backing him up.

Same situation: If this construction firm was hired to build a JP Morgan Chase branch and one of their construction workers decides to fly a Bank of America flag out front.

I've never seen a fanbase in the media so much for doing stupid shite

Not to mention this is Texas. Good luck winning a wrongful termination suit in our freedom loving state.

As usual, ANYTHING to take the embarrassment off of your fan base, or the monumental disgust -

haha, yeah that too. texas law leaves very little recourse for firing someone for any reason whatsoever outside discriminatory practices

The problem with that, is that A&M now has it's own law school. And we have more money than you (whoever you are).

A&M wins. Case closed.

And you'd have to be a dumbass to ever lose a discriminatory suit. I'm pretty sure in the State of Texas you can fire someone for looking at you the wrong way.

yep, Texas is one of the few states where you can fire someone without cause and for any reason, without exception.
