Ummmm. No. What? That's not even funny?

While LSU students probably will use it heavily, what I was getting at is that public transportation is usually predominantly used by the lower class. Yeah during the season it will get used by sports fans but the other 7 months out of the year it will not be.

It will be a shithole before you know it, not that I'm hoping for that because it's a cool idea, just saying what will most likely happen.

ETA: More specifically I'm talking about the BR-NOLA train, the shorter one will probably be fine.

ETA2: Holy shite, 10 bucks for a ticket? Yeah that thing will end up being run into the ground. Damn shame.

I just don't see how you'd think a rail link between BR and NOLA would be heavily used by the "lower class". This ain't a 15 minute bus ride we're talking about.

The primary intended use was for all the workers who'll be coming in for the approximately $21 billion in projects being built in the BR-NOLA corridor. Secondarily, it's for evacuation during hurricane season...that's why one of the stops is at Essen Lane in BR, where all the medical facilities are. Third, it was to handle sports fans..LSU, Saints, Zephyrs. We're saying that LSU students will use it big time to go back and forth from BR to NOLA.

I'd bet you'd ride that train a long time and never see anyone from "the lower class".

Edit: reposted pic showing rail route...

Dude, don't feed the troll.

I mean c'mon...why would someone in the "lower class" pay $10 bucks for a 79 minute train ride? To go where? For what purpose? A job? There's plenty of jobs in both cities, and at every stop along the line. No reason to go anywhere else. Louisiana's unemployment rate recently dipped to 4.3%. There's literally jobs everywhere. With even more on the way.

You'll primarily see students, sports fans, and construction workers on that train at first. Later on you'll see a lot of workers in oil and gas refineries.

No lower class though. That's just insane.

Is Kyle Field out in the middle of a pasture? Looks like nothing surrounds it.

Look at it from an aerial view.

It's at the heart of campus, actually. Just taller than pretty much everything around it.

A further FYI on the BR-NOLA rail link...it may one day be a part of a rail link stretching from Houston to Atlanta, with a side junt to Mobile from the New Orleans junction.

DEEP SOUTH HIGH SPEED RAIL CORRIDOR FEASIBILITY STUDY (1995)

In 1995, the SRRTC undertook a study to define a corridor or corridors for high speed rail passenger service through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama that could also provide a connection for HSR service between Texas and Florida. The study recommends a primary route that parallels the I-10 corridor along the Gulf Coast stretching 393 miles from Atmore, AL to Lake Charles, LA. Baton Rouge to New Orleans is an important segment of this longer corridor. The study identifies the benefits of implementing service, provides an estimate of ridership, and suggests an incremental approach for implementing service and capital improvements. The study recommends stations in Baton Rouge, LaPlace, New Orleans International Airport (Kenner) and New Orleans. This study was provided the documentation that was instrumental in obtaining the federal designation as a high speed rail corridor

I don't mean to sound like a dick about the A&M project, but the whole thing just looks terribly generic to me. It looks like the outside of FSU, Texas, Oklahoma and Bama. It's an impressive project for sure, don't get me wrong. Just doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of creativity going on.

You don't sound like a dick.
To each his own.
But wait til it's complete.
The creativity at Kyle Field happens when the 12th Man fills it.
The rest is just bricks and mortar.

FSU

t.u.

Oklahoma

Alabama

A&M

If you say so. I think they're all fairly different besides all have bricks & glass. But then again the covers most stadiums & ballparks.

There is nothing wrong with the looks of Kyle Field. When finished in 2015, it will be the best-looking stadium in the SEC. It's a huge step forward for the Aggies.

I would, too. Try as I might though, I just can't get it out of my head that we'd already have a higher-speed version, if not for Jindal turning down the federal money for it.
