most titles since the 1800s and most victories in the nation since 1896, even excluding the 9 forfeits and 21 vacancies that the ncaa decided on.

LINK

also interesting that you think this, though so many LSU fans say that LSU makes the winning coaches, in spite of the fact that LSU didn't win a national title since the whitebread 1950s till Nick Saban arrived there.

Did your school have anything close to a Bear Bryant in its history? And the Aggies or the Cats didn't have enough of "something special" to keep Bear there when they had him.

Lol at the ignorance. Nick Saban has been on an unprecedented run and is the GOAT. And Alabama had been mired in a decade of shite prior to Saban, who restored Alabama and took us to new heights. But the statement in the OP is ridiculous. Alabama has won an SEC championship in every decade since the SEC existed. Etcetera,
Etcetera.

As posters have said... Rich Rod turned them down and saban was looking to get out of the NFL. Grossly overmatched in the NFL and his style wasn't working with grown players that he couldn't control. It was enough that he left for bama, after denying that he was going to bama. Before, bama hadn't been shite since Bear was the coach. But fans act like they been kicking arse for 100yrs. They don't talk about it, but it's a common known fact that 75% of bama fans only started being fans once saban had his first successful season.

Alabama was set to hire RR when AD Moore got word from Sexton that Saban would be interested if they waited until the end of the Dolphin's season. Moore needed to get away from RR so they turned their media dog Finebaum loose on RR including insulting his wife. This caused RR to back out, opening the door for Saban

Saban arrived at LSU in 2000. Correct? Bryant retired at Alabama in 1982.

In that span LSU was wayyy down at 38 in the nation and Alabama is 11, in spite of the ncaa forfeits. The point is that it's goofy for a LSU fan to deride Alabama as being shite after Bryant, when UA was much better than your own team.

1983 to through 1999

Alabama hired Nick Saban because of Candy Edwards. Without her, Nick Saban never ends up in Alabama.

Yea, but what about your record in 1600's? Did you conveniently forget about that?!

This is pretty close to accurate. There was a conversation in which Sexton told Moore Saban would be interested if they waited until his season in Miami was finished. Moore said he was worried about what the delay might do to recruiting. Supposedly Sexton replied with the classic and prophetic line of "if you wait for Nick, you'll never have to worry about recruiting again"

As for RR, there are some that say Bama pulled offer and allowed him to publicly say he wanted to stay at WVU (even though he'd accepted offer), while others say his wife got her feelings hurt over the Finebaum stuff and that's why he backed out.

Have a real estate friend in the Miami area and heard he was in a financial bind on a large real estate deal that went south. Bama promised to bail him out if he came to Tuscaloosa.

Just what I heard.
