Interesting Texas fact..

If Sark can get the W on Saturday, he will become the first longhorn coach to start his Texas career 2-0 since Fred Akers in 1977.

Texas went out of their way to absolutely screw The University of Houston. That is a FACT. As a Texas guy I can assure you I don’t like it. But Texas did it 100% out of spite. Deloss Dodds, the long time Texas AD, was absolutely responsible and it’s not something I will ever comprehend. The pure pettiness of that man, and not just a few big money boosters, is a shame to have in our past.

You know not of what you speak.

There are many reasons for UT's perception of UH, including UofH's mickey mouse antics since forever. Here are two; Bleacher Gate in 2001 and UT System Expansion in 2017.

Bleacher Gate: UH used to play in the Astrodome (60,000 capacity). UH moved the 2001 game to Robertson Stadium on the UH Campus (32,000 capacity), and agreed to increase the stadium capacity to meet their ticket commitments. The new seating was deemed unsafe, and UT wanted to move the game to the Dome or Rice Stadium and UH refused. viola, Bleacher Gate & the ensuing shitstorm.
quote:

Houston finally convinced us to play them on their home field based on adding about 10K seats as bleachers. They were put up and immediately came under scrutiny. A day or two before the game they were declared structurally inadequate and were not allowed to be used. Cougar High thought that a TV feed in the Bball gym was a satisfactory replacement for their $#@!ty bleachers that were sold almost exclusively to Texas fans.
quote:

I was the Forensic Structural Engineer that tried to warn UH and the engineer responsible for the structure that it was unsafe. I had tickets in them and just stopped by to check out where my seat was, because I was on a project near the campus. The structure was made out of scaffolding and significantly under designed. After running into a number of road blocks, I finally got some media photos out that got Gifford Nielson [former Oiler QB, TV sportcaster] involved. Long story short, the UH President went up into the stands and said he wouldn't let his grandkids play on them. A UH structural professor called me and told me not to let them use the stands, because they were unsafe but he couldn't say anything about it because of his job. The stands were built on the side of a muddy hill with 2x4's embedded into the ground next to the wooden 2x10 shims to keep the bases from sliding. Unbelievable.

UT Houston Expansion:
UT wanted to create a Data Center “intellectual hub” for all of UT’s colleges and institutions, that could aggregate information from the UT facilities across the State and act as a launch pad for UT’s institutions to work closely with Houston’s industries such as health care, aerospace, engineering and energy.

UH, led by Tilman Fertitta, led the opposition that ultimately killed the project, even though the UT Health Science Center in Houston has 10,000 students, faculty & staff and UT's MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston has over 22,000 students, faculty & staff.

I was 9 or 10 years old at my first Arkansas/Texas game in Fayetteville

Got old pics at the game with my family

As weird as this is, and I don't care, I have several yellow bricks from the old Broyles Complex demolition and they're on my book shelves. They were visible behind us in the pics taken of me and my brothers standing in the south end zone before that game

but I'm just a sidewalk fan according to some 5'4 hot dog smacker frat boy pussies on this site

And that's fine

don’t worry about that. I went to another small school in Arkansas. Sorry I didn’t make a 30 on my ACT or have rich parents to go to the university I rooted for all my life, but if people are only allowed to root for schools they went too or worked for I’m not for sure how the nfl turns a profit

Pitns944, I do know of what I speak. Pull that irrelevant 2001 bleacher gate and 2017 system expansion out of your post. Those have nothing to do with the screw job DD was behind in during the initial formation of the Big XII in 1993-1994. There was bad blood between Texas and UH. Dodds and the Texas money men absolutely used the political situation to screw Houston. Houston was a threat. We killed them. End of story.

This is a great video. Texas Homer is fairly new to the Texas scene, but the guy is really good. I definitely recommend this video if you care about this game. This game truly could go either way.. I can’t wait.

I understand this.. it makes sense for both A&M and LSU. If that happens, I think the Texas Arkansas game goes to that weekend.

That’s not weird at all. I love it! Those memories are the good ones..

if you've ever noticed, the "sidewalk fans" accusations never occur in person face to face

the Broyles Complex demolition was 6 or so years ago

I was there on a Saturday morning picking through yellow bricks that had been dozed

I can honestly say that I am 1000% more worried about this game than I was last week against U La La. I’m seriously pumped about this game..

Bring on the hate little piggies!
