They're mostly Texans and as such this is what they do in life, not just college football. There are two kinds of people in Texas whose ancestors were not brought there against their will...people who could not succeed where they were and did not have the balls to continue onto the west coast or direct descendants of the poorest poor people the United States ever produced. Those same poor bastards were luckier than shite though and their last grasp of hope turned out to sit atop a vast oil reserve...so now there is money up the wazoo in the hands of the direct descendants of the poorest folks ever to find themselves in North America. There is a reason everything is bigger in Texas...its because there is nothing special about Texas except in the minds of those descendants who, like any poor person who backs into untold wealth, comes to conclude that they did something other than quit. You will hear Texans talk about more hat than cows...they think that shite is HILARIOUS. What is truly hilarious is it applies to everything west of the Sabine and east of the Llano Estacado.
