Honest question for Ole Miss fans. What are the 2-3 main reasons you guys have not won SEC since 1963? I come here with full respect and love the rivalry we had in 50-60’s when both teams (LSU and Ole Miss) were top 10 type programs. I just wonder why you guys are where you are the past 40 years. Sure you have had some good teams, but you have very good facilities, a good state to recruit in and continue to suffer. For us it was getting the right Chancellor, Coaches (Dinardo started it) and AD in. It was also about money. What does it take for you guys to get in Sec title game every 5-6 years and go to bowl 7-8 out of 10 years? Seems like you should have a much program. Appreciate you input and wish you guys some success (except against LSU) this year.

Top talent usually leaves the state for Bama, LSU, etc. Have to compete with 2 other D1 football programs in state.

Penny-pinching athletic department with a bad case of giving expert-level decisions to Farmer Bob who donates $4mil a year.

Largely apathetic fan base.

Someone help me with some more reasons...

1. MS is one of the poorest if not poorest state in the nation
2. There are 3 D1 schools
3. Southern culture (less now than before)
4. Too much leadership turnover

I've noticed quite a few instate kids from Miss have bad grades and end up in JUCO instead of SEC.

Dumb student athletics that can't make the grade to college enrollment. HS coaches do not help in preparing players to get ready to make grades to get to a major.

Oh God, we've gotten soft. GEAUX TO HELL, Ole Miss!

On a serious note, I'm a traditionalist and would enjoy the LSU-Ole Miss game being as entertaining and competitive as it was in the 50s-60s. Then maybe the rest of the SEC wouldn't give us shite about not having a rival.

The public education system in MS is awful

We've had a string of mediocre to bad coaches

Our Athletic Department was run by ego driven buffoons

This might be the most intelligent thing I've ever seen you post.

It's too bad. I think an 8-4 and better Ole Miss team is good for the SEC.

I would like to see the real data in the HS grades issue. I have to think LA, MS, AL, AK even GA etc. are not that different. But maybe they are. I agree having MSU and USM makes it tougher but have to think you guys can outspend them big time. What about money?

If you go back in our history of coaches, their records and their tenures, we have been about as quick triggered as anyone on getting rid of coaches. I guess we were spoiled by Vaught and never let anyone get a foothold on the program. Tie that into the civil rights issues and the good ole boy network, 3 schools the same size in the state with 2 being SEC schools with only 8-10 SEC caliber players in MS a year with 2-3 going out of state and you get your answer.

We need a coach who is here to build, an athletic department who is moving in one direction, and we need to keep the instate talent and find 15-20 out of state SEC caliber players yearly to have that 1 year that we are good and everyone else is down to get back to Atlanta.

MS is consistently at the bottom in every category except for infant mortality and teen pregnancy.

This is true to an extent, but Boone has been affecting how willing donors have been to let go of their money.

The obvious answer is all the race issues with OM over the years, but no one wants to admit it. I even saw a poster say 'Southern Culture' was a reason for their struggles.

Seriously? Southern Culture? Not the on-campus Klan rallies?

A horrible athletic director can ruin a program. Just look at LSU under Joe Dean. The man did not have a clue. I'm sure it's the same with Pete Boone at OM

I live in Ms and I don't see nor hear of a race problem at Ole Miss. Ole Miss has gone over backwards to please blacks by making major changes for their better.

Race is an issue that is widely over blown mostly by people from out of state. Sure we've has our struggles but what southern university had not had issues? Your statement is hyperbolic and erroneous.

It's kinda hard to win the SEC West when you lose to State 3 years in a row (serious statement)

If you don't see the race issue over the last few years then you have problems. We still have a race issue but it is just now getting better. I'm too tired after studying to go on a rant so I'll leave it at that.
