Home Field Advantage (SEC)

Neyland and LSU have very loud crowds. It will even out.

Both are important..but yea not being able to make vocal checjs to the offensive line has to suck. I am sure they have signals for the WRs if need to audible.

They are. And they do but it is still quite a limitation. We only had one truly deafening home game last year. Georgia executed nearly flawlessly on offense I don’t think they had any false starts. To this day I’m angry that we ran so much man to man coverage instead of trying to muddy the picture with zone coverage.

You know that list doesn't really tell you much about how loud a stadium is, but it does sorta tell you how easy it now is to play in Tiger Stadium.

All that "death valley at night" shite is dead and buried.

Or a great team. Southern Cal had a lower tier crowd when Pete was dominating there. Did not have to do with the crowd.


Noise levels, false starts, coaches or players statements are a better tell.

I have been to MSU and Auburn. Stadiums get really really loud. MSU has the cowbells and you hear them days later. Auburn is a really good environment.

I have been to Bama. There are times when it can get really loud but most of the time it is not as loud as you would think. Over 100,000 and it's not the loudest stadium. I think the design of the stadium carries the noise up and out. Great environment thought!

Crowd noise is not a huge factor in home field advantage.

It's a factor, but the biggest factor is the visiting team being unfamiliar with the home teams stadium.

When you are in a new environment your senses are focused on many outside things. There isn't much you can do about this, it's just how the brain works. It's kind of like going nose blind. For survival you go nose blind to things so that you can focus on other things. The home team is nose blind, but the visiting team isn't and so some of their focus goes towards that.

The more a stadium is unlike the others, the bigger the advantage. Another factor is how often the team plays. Like back in the day it was a bit of an advantage for Alabama to play in a neutral site game in Atlanta. It made the team more familiar, things are more routine etc when they play there again later in a season, or the next season.

If you smoke weed at home, same thing. You don't feel as high at home. But if you go out and walk/ride around you suddenly realize you are much higher than you thought. Because your surrounding become less familiar, your brain is trying to process more, etc. It also contributes to people OD on serious drugs.
