Why the frick does it matter if you went to the University or not. Some of the most loyal fans prob never attended the school that they spend hundreds of dollars, possibly even thousands on every year.

Just because one attended the University does not make you any more of a "fan".

sorry but this is all bullshite. attending a school, by its very definition, makes you more of a fan of that school. you can't get the same kind of exposure to the life, atmosphere and personality of a school if you've never been enrolled in school there, lived on campus, been on/around campus when it's NOT football season, etc..

I would say LSU has a huge amount of sidewalk fans. Every toothless redneck in North Louisiana (where I live now) is adorned with a walmart LSU shirt or hat. I think it is hilarious. I work state wide and am on the road every day. Whenever I see a clunker on the road it has an LSU sticker on it (if not a ULM stcker).

you can interchange LSU, North Louisiana for any SEC school and area of the state where said school lies and the same would be true. LSU is NOT on top of this list. trust me.

Good point. One of my best friends went to Presbyterian College in SC, yet came to Columbia each weekend for every home game while we were in college. He never quite got "it." He is a die-hard Gamecock, and actually goes to law school at USC now, but he will even tell you that he didn't fully get what it was to be a Gamecock until he enrolled in law school.

I wouldn't sport it DC.

I am not proud of my alma dont matter. It's a shitty education institute that over charges for a shite piece of paper. Me and one other girl did the homework for our entire class of 14. Cheating was allowed. Hell the teacher would hand out a test and walk out of the room.

I had a math class that we went over a chapter for the first hour. Then we would take a pre quiz and let out for break.
When we got back to class, the instructor would go over the pre quiz, writing the problems and answers out on the board... Then another break. When we came back it would be test time. The test would be identical to the pre quiz. Same number of problems, and the problems would be identical to the one on the pre quiz...(with one number being changed)....and the old coot left the pre quiz answers on the white board!!!!!!!!!

Point taken.....BUT

If not for these so called "sidewalk fans" most schools would not be able to fill stadiums. I attended UTK and have friends that did not, they are just as passionate as I am about the athletic program.

but they just don't get it. I didn't get it till i was in fayetteville during the school year and most people don't. There is just an atmosphere during football and basketball seasons.

I don't really have a lot of experience with "sidewalk fans." everybody that I tailgate with and the men in my family all went to LSU. I have friends that went to La Tech, ULM, LSU-S, etc.. and they claim to be LSU fans and pull for the team, but they're not really into it like some people. they rarely even go to the games.

Fandom is fandom in a lot of ways.

I wasn't really talking about fandom, as much as I was talking about insulting the actual school, like I said in my post.

This OU "fan" was talking about my school. So I asked him, "where did you go to college?"

He stuttered, stammered, "well I didn't, but.." and launched into how he was an entrepreneur, etc, etc..

From there it was a downward spiral of him defending his "fandom" and backtracking about all the things he had said about the University of Arkansas.

I kept saying "so you're a t-shirt OU fan."

Then he talked about how he owned a restaurant, and I said sarcastically "I'm sure you're very successful."

As I was leaving, he started talking shite again like he wanted to fight. That's when I laughed at him and called him a pussy.

So most every fan that attends LSU games are alumni?

I know if you go to Knoxville on a Saturday about 40/50% have never attended the school.

The bottom line is, like it or not, an alum holds the trump card, if you wanna get nasty about somebody else's actual school.

...unless you went Ivy League or something.

as alumnus we should be thankful for these "sidewalk fans" they spend a lot of money on the University in order for the programs to have such great facilities.

I guess I fall into the category of only hanging out with, tailgating with, and taking road trips across the SEC with fellow alumni. Maybe it has something to do with that.
