Bob Devaney was the best college football coach in America in his day while at Nebraska, then Tom Osborne, his protege, followed him, and was also great!
Devaney recruited from the ENTIRE country, and used the red-shirt system, especially with his linemen, to develop them physically. He figured out how to have his team legally practice nearly year-round.

But college football needs a good Nebraska. It's just not as good without them. blah, blah, blah...

It's sad. They're fans are really nice/good people. At least all the ones I interacted with at the Cotton Bowl.

NCAA doing away with prop 48, is what killed Nebraska.

Tennessee was the SEC Prop 48 super thug team. Fulmer was Tom Osborne.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are on the verge of missing out on going to a bowl game for the 7th year-in-a-row.

Their "secret sauce" under Osborne was two-fold. One, the "walk on" program, that was endowed with private money and pretty much functioned as another scholarship program. And two, for a time they really were ahead of the pack regarding their strength and conditioning program. At least according to what I've heard various analysts and former players discuss.

The sands shifted under their feet when the rule they were exploiting changed. With all the bitching Saban did about NIL I wonder if the sands are shifting under Saban now?

Oklahoma is the next Nebraska.

Tu, as much as I hate those bastages, will be a force in the SEC.

Hard to fathom

Not really. They were always the most likely blue blood to drop off. It’s more hard to fathom that they ever gained such status.

The question is not what old guys think about blueblood status but what today's players think. To them Nebraska has sucked for most of their lives. It's hard sell for out of state kids to want to spend their college years there. Nothing wrong with Lincoln but it's just not all that sexy.

Hard to fathom for such a blue blood like the 'Huskers.

They should have never left the Big XII. They lost their lifeline to recruiting when moving to the B1G.
