When services like Uber and Lyft exist, the state will not be remotely lenient.

I remember that but can't recall the guys name. I think he played college ball at Tennessee.

Ruggs was drunk? Screw him if so. I had an uncle killed by a drunk driver and family I know was pretty much wiped out less than 24 hours ago by a damn drunk driver.

That’s a new one on me—does the NFL actually have something like that? Sounds like a great idea, and could prevent this exact situation.

I've heard about it before in situations like this. It used to exist. I'm assuming it's still available.

Is this a first offense? If so, his money will get him off light. He will simply pay a lot of money to lawyers and the family and will probably be playing in the NFL in 2 years after serving some suspension. (See Ray Lewis)

I wish this dude made better decisions, then someone would be a live today. You have that much money, drink that is fine, but call a damn cab.

Dontae Stallworth and Leonard Little both played at UT and both were let off pretty easily after killing people

No excuse for this. If he was truly under the influence, lock him up.

If Rape is ok in the NFL, why not vehicular homicide/Intoxication Manslaughter?

Can’t find the actual quote from his attorney, but several references like this:
quote:

Ruggs lawyer said they need the blood results because he said he doesn't believe he was drunk, states he "seemed dazed and impaired" only because he was just in a car accident.

Not sure if this is just lawyer-speak or if he really has reason to believe the blood results could show otherwise.

Uh, no. The mood in America has toughened up
considerably against drunk driving in recent years
and especially where it leads to injury or
death for victims---NFL player or not---and the
more money you have, the more will be taken by
lawyers and suits.
Ruggs' Adidas contract will be or is already canceled
---his $millions in guaranteed money will rapidly
dissolve. In Nevada, DUI causing death is
punishable by a minimum of two years in prison &
maximum of 20, first offense or not. It's likely to
drag in court for months---and regardless of
the eventual outcome, Henry Ruggs' life will never be
the same. (all of course based on blood alcohol
above legal limit)

Yeah, I'm assuming he spoke to Ruggs and this was his claim.

He probably has no way of knowing until the tests come back, but I'm sure there is someone at Top Golf checking his tab, videos, etc.

way longer. A simple misdemeanor would take months to get fully resolved. Even if the toxicology report comes back clean, he'll still be charged with vehicular manslaughter, at minimum, more than likely (which is actually a misdemeanor in NV fwiw). Whatever the case, things like this don't get resolved quickly criminally or civilly. He'll be dealing with this, in some respect, for years probably

Yeah, by the time Ruggs spoke to his attorney, he very well may not have been intoxicated anymore. It would take quite a while from his last drink, to the wreck, to the cops arriving, to getting arrested, to get processed and booked, etc. He may not have been able to speak to his attorneys for hours after the wreck. And, like you said, his attorney is probably mostly going of what his client is telling him at the moment because that's all he has to go off of right now

Man, this is just a terrible situation all the way around.

I haven't seen anything at all mentioned about the victim, other than in the official statement, i.e., a "deceased victim inside the Toyota."

I can't imagine what that family is going through.
