They were terrible the entire game and were the main reason the game lasted more than four hours.
First off, thank you for a rational take on the whole thing.

Calling out the wrong number on at least six penalties was just the beginning.
While it seems trivial on the surface, it speaks to a basic level of competence with the crew. The most egregious was the already pointed our fact that they called a penalty for a player that wasn't even on the field at the time.

I know there's been a lot of talk on the unsportsmanlike penalty hit on Nuss that negated the pick-6 and the leap over the shield on the blocked punt, but there were so many other ridiculous calls and no calls throughout the game.
The late hit out of bounds on Rocket Sanders should have been flagged. Also there should have been a flag for illegal touching against LSU in the 4th. Outside of the blocked punt (which we've debated on here ad nauseum) I'm sure LSU fans can come up with several other "no calls" that went against them and I actually welcome those to be discussed.

To me, the most egregious was the offensive PI on SC later in the game. Did a receiver engage with a DB before the ball was caught? yes... but they were like 30 yards away from the intended receiver. I just feel like they should use some sort of common sense there.
I've searched and searched for video on this one to no avail. If you watch the tape the LSU DB engages the SC player (the DB redirects him as he attempts to run his route). The SC player, Nyck Harbor, tries to dis-engage and the LSU DB continues to hand fight with him.
Good post.

Because it was legal per the rule. I've posted on here 10 times so I won't do it again, but the player was clearly in the gap between players. In the past 3 years, no team has blocked more punts in the power 5 than South Carolina. We work on it more than any other team. That's why they call it Beamer Ball.
Do you practice horse collar tackles and roughing the passer? Must be Beamer ball. Because both Pick 6’s were due to clear as day penalties? The rules clearly state what uscjr did was illegal on the punt block. Y’all got away with it and got free points. Still lost.
Anyway enjoy only having one sec win this year against Kentucky. Y’all won’t win another sec game

Not one single reasonable person on here that knows the rules has made the argument that the horse collar tackle wasn't correctly called. The jersey is part of the rule and he grabbed the jersey.
Now, there might be an argument about the TIMING of it, and if the penalty should have been enforce before or after the change of possession, but the call in an of itself was correct.

So if LSU performed the same tackle on USCe that led to an interception for LSU ball, you’d think that LSU should keep possession? Really?
The call was correct. Again, that is called the same way 10/10 times.
The roughing the passer you can make more of an argument for of addressing that on kickoff.

Well you see this is the internet and I can use typical behavior of the entire fan base to make an educated guess that you, an LSU fan, have whined about referees past the Tuesday following a game without combing through your 14k posts to prove it. So....

And just curious... have you ever called your fellow LSU fans "losers" for still whining about referees for calls that are more than a decade old? Just wondering because you would be REALLY REALLY busy over on tiger droppings calling out a lot of posters.

You do realize that LSU’s defense is still horseshite don’t you? And that LSU is going to get their shite pushed in multiple times this season don’t you? You might want to pump the brakes.

Not a SC fan so no tears. Sorry. Just think it was ironic for an LSU fan calling someone else a "loser" for complaining about refs on a Tuesday after a game. So... see any good billboards around Baton Rouge recently?

SC had almost 100 yards in passing called back in penalties, some legit, some not. It could have been worse.

It's amazing the NFL has turned around and become the go-to league for me to watch in terms of football. College football is almost unwatchable at this point.
I have always preferred CFB to the NFL version, partially due to the fact that I am a Falcons fan and therefore have only watched a semi-pro football team play against NFL teams most seasons since the Falcons arrived in Atlanta, just a few weeks before I did. That said I am getting less and less interested in CFB even in a period where UGA is better than they have ever been and better than most UGA fans ever thought they'd be. I seriously doubt if UGA was going 9-3 and 8-4 every season that I would be interested at all. The game is just untenable. I do not mind the portal or NIL....but in person or on TV either way the LONG, interminable breaks regardless of what is going on as far as rhythm and momentum goes has made it damn near impossible to maintain focus on the game.
UGA/UK is a great example of how the clock changes have sped up the actual game while the commercials have made the game painfully slow. The game is now one where you had better sustain a drive on every possession or face having the ball 7-8 times in 4 quarters. That would be perfect IF the overall game time reflected that...it does not. The overall game is still 210 minutes long, 150 of which is Dr. Pepper and insurance commercials (and campaign ads this year...UGH). Its bad on TV. It is untenable to sit in the stands while everyone is milling about aimlessly waiting for Coach Prime and the duck to sell whatever it is they are selling.
Conference expansion and the 12 game playoff has and will offer more intriguing matchups across CFB. Again though they have tweaked even that with fricking guaranteed playoff berths for 4 conference champions, one of which may not be ranked in the top 20 most seasons, and a never ending slate of rent a wins where the score is 35-0 in the first fricking quarter.....exciting if its your team, more boring than European soccer if its not.
I do not know what the viewership is but its my understanding in person attendance is down. I can't imagine how TV viewers stay fanatical about their teams with 250 minutes of commercials that stop the ebb and flow of the game anytime it can. Its also hard to imagine how TV viewership continues to remain constant or grow if young people aren't attending games in person - where do the fans come from going forward? Attending games in person has always been for younger fans, students and recent grads through their mid 40s or so. With ticket prices like they are where are future fans going to come from? I am certain financially CFB has never looked better but I doubt its sustainability. I know an awful lot of people who have spent an inordinate amount of time and money following CFB are paying lip service to turning away. Not many have but I bet they start....the game is almost unwatchable and getting worse.

This is incorrect, btw. The WR was forced out of bounds and re-entered the field of play. They actually got that one correct which would have been a more difficult one to get (solid irony).
Now, calling it a catch while his knee was OOB? Incompetent.

Can’t say I’ve called them out for specifically what you said but yes I have called them out in the immediacy.

A family friend called high school football games for 25+ yrs. He finally retired, in frustration, because the quality of calling games had bottomed out. Primarily because all the experienced refs were retiring & the younger refs coming up in the system were horrible .And he said that has rippled up the ranks, to where the quality is poor, & getting poorer, at all levels now. Leagues can't find near enough refs to fill their ranks. To the extent the Leagues are hesitant to suspend or even fire existing refs for any significant amount of time.

That certainly makes last year’s Iron Bowl and 2022’s TSIO make more sense.

SO.... I am sure you will have absolutely no problem finding and linking just one teensy weensy example of you calling LSU fans out in your history right? Since LSU fans provide ample opportunities for you to police such behavior, should be no problem.
