It's still giving them a "home" game
They are in CUSA. They are a G5 school.
Don't bitch about your schedule if you're purposely giving these games away.

Houston is Lsu west.
False. I was born and raised here in Houston. 95% of lsu fans here are transplants. The majority of fans and alum here are UT and A&m. A few are rice and uh. As far as recruiting yall only been able to get recruits because texas has been down. Now the recruits are going back to UT and a&m. Look at 2018 - 2019 classes for proof.

Crazy how things have changed.
Now it would be a bunch of turds. Some in jerseys. Gawd I hate seeing idiots in overgrown jerseys. If they werent so freaking big but like a regular shirt then maybe no big deal but geez they look stupid.

I don't know man. I believe I would rather play Rice than Austin Peay and UMass.

Rice is a money game.....at least for Rice.
They are very small (some high schools in Texas have more students than Rice) and need money. Student enrollment in 2016 was 6,740. A&M has that many in a freshman English class.
My nephew was a football scholarship player at Rice. He was recruited by Ken Hatfield, later for Todd Graham (went to a bowl game in New Orleans) and finished under David Baliff.
One season they played three consecutive games on the road against texas, USC and Florida State. I think that border on player abuse.
He red shirted his first year but played (and lettered) four consecutive years. He knew his future was not in football and you receive a first rate education.
The school has a ton of money (not for athletics but education) but IMHO they should not be playing D1 football.

I was gonna laugh at LSU for being only 33-12-4 against Rice, then I saw that Bama was 0-3 against them during the same time frame.

Playing Rice at Rice is one thing, getting beat by Rice at Rice goes to the Troy abortion level.
Just win, baby.

not just in that same time frame, all time
Bama is 0-3 ALL TIME vs Rice
that's thread worthy in and of itself...

UGA is 0-1 against Rice
we need to do a 2 fer 1 with them ourselves, with one in Houston...

One of UA's all time memorable moments came from playing Rice.
quote:
In the 1954 Cotton Bowl, Alabama's Tommy Lewis came off the sideline to tackle Rice's Dicky Maegle (then Moegle). Ed Sullivan had both on his show.

Not that unusual to give G5 teams a "home" game at a neutral site stadium. Arkansas used to do that with Sun Belt teams at WMR. We'd wear our home uniforms and collect most of the gate but they'd get to count it towards their attendance for the season.
Since LSU usually wears their whites Rice gets to wear their home uniforms anyway.
Its basically a home game for LSU, who will almost certainly outnumber the Rice fans by a ten to one margin, and lets Texas recruits get a chance to catch an LSU game in their backyard. I'm fairly certain they are getting a nice pay off for the game as well.

Rice was in the SWC in those days so playing Rice on the road was different.

If I'm not mistaken Rice's stadium still has 70,000 seats, but most of the seats are usually covered with tarps. They can play the game at Rice Stadium and uncover the tarps for the game.

The game is not at Rice. It is a neutral site game in a place LSU likes to play (Reliant). And there will be more LSU fans there than Rice fans.

Kinda silly question. I know Lsu has history with Rice but what about Houston. Oh and this is very sad troll thread. Lots of teams play Rice @ Texans.
