What? Wasn't he 5-19 at Iowa State and like 8-5 last year at Auburn?

2010- 12-0
2005- 14-0

04, 05, 10 (so far but this one isn't over)

In terms of regular seasons, he has three unbeaten years in which he was either DC or HC....

Now Chizik's time as an assistant counts is this argument? Can we use Saban's time as an assistant at Michigan State and Ohio State as arguments?

Okay then, 50% of all seasons that Chizik has been the AU HC, he has had an undefeated regular season.

Yea, that is dumb. He probably did more actual coaching in 2004 and 2005 than this year. By the way you are welcome to pull up saban's career stats when he was an assistant or coordinator as well. I think the total is still 1.

texas went 13-0 in 2005. Not 14-0. Only teams to go 14-0 are OSU in '02, Boise '09, and Bama '09

Um, yeah, sorry, I'm not counting coordinator records.

Plus, Chizik is undefeated at this point in the season, he still has to win two more games. Season ain't over.

Anyway, I still think Saban has the Bama program in better shape and is a better coach for the long term.

Of course, not really sure if the words "long term" and Saban should ever be used...

Of course I knew this would be turned into a pissing match by the likes of nievetiger and co. (a few BAMA fans took his bait). Two years ago the Iron Bowl was 36 - 0. I thought that that was enough of an indicatinon that one team was ahead of the other but some had to go the last 5,10,15 year series record route. Sorry about that. I wasnt asking who was the better school historically. This thread was not intended to be a pissing match/flame type thing. BAMA fans are sore and rationalizing the loss, Auburn fans are sky high and getting way ahead of themselves so I was really interested in how others saw the two schools for the immediate future. Thanks for those who gave honest unbiased opinions, even those that came from fans of one of the two schools.

Due to the ever changing nature of the SEC due to parity (f*ck that word, FWIW), I wouldn't say either program is ever as far ahead, or behind, of the other as the fans of that program would like to think.

A player here or there can turn a 7-5 or 8-4 one year team into a conference champ the next.

The days of one team totally dominating may be gone.

agree 100% - the nature of our rivalry is liek a pedelum. it swings one way for a time, but always swings back the other way. i don't think their is a "Dominant Team" in the rivalry anymore. nor do I agree with one team closing a gap.

there is no Gap - if the history of the IB has shown anything at all - everything is out the window for that game - records, stats - all of it.

How does one equate a player, who has played 12 games for one program, and a coach that coached 25 years at the other program, when making this argument?

While Auburn has had the upper hand since 1999, Alabama was crippled to some extent from 2002-2006. Let's have this argument again in 10 years. Both programs will have been on equal footing, at least in what they're afforded in terms of program building.

these programs will never be on equal football. both will keep cheating, and both will keep being caught we have owned bama since bear left, and before.

Damn, I hate to fall into this so I'll make one post in regards to this type of argument from an Auburn fan. It's like how they always want to point out their record against Saban but fail to equate that he won 2 National and 3 SEC Titles in three of his wins against them. Last 30 years BAMA has 2 National and 4 SEC Titles. Yeah Auburn has 4 more wins against BAMA in that time frame but wouldnt you gladely trade 4 wins for the titles? It basicaly screams to me that head to head the teams have been fairly even but that when BAMA is good they have a great year. When Auburn is good they beat BAMA. The only thing Auburn has to show for their efforts since the title in the fifties is "Punt BAMA Punt".

Uhm......as a matter of note, Auburn has 5 SECC's during that time, are about to play for their 6th, and may win the NC this year.

That'd pretty much be even as an impartial bystander.
