I know plenty of people were rooting for UK's downfall when they went to the final four in 2014 and 2015, but I don't remember a lot of incidents involving their players being classless (at least not to the degree that Tennessee was this season)
I'm not sure how beloved Brian Bosworth and OU were in the 80s as that was before I was born. But it looks as if they played the other villain role alongside Miami during that time.

Detroit Pistons basketball team. You either loved them or hated them... no in between. Most fans hated them.
As for college... Tennessee must rank pretty high on the list if you saw them play and like assholes. They typify what most sports fans can't stand. Wouldn't have mattered what jerseys they had... would be universally hated within the college ranks.

Purposely getting PFs and Unsportsmanlikes just because they knew you all couldn't do squat even with the extra downs and distance.
Running up the tunnel after catching a TD pass and exploring the fairgrounds instead of coming back to the sideline.
Harrassing the Texas fans on the sidelines by doing all kinds of things to the sacred Hook'em Horns sign including flashing it upright while wearing an excrement eating grin.
Pure comedy for three hours. And just like now, Texas fans and admin couldn't take it and demanded that the NCAA do something about those mean 'ole Canes.
