That’s due to the weird voodoo AU puts on Bama when they play in JH. You got lucky as shite to even get past Freeze there last year

Harsin was just trying to clean house.

Very glad Saban cleaned house after 2007.

My hunch is Auburn's problems right now is they've spent over half a decade recruiting very poorly between the tail end of Malzahn and the short tenure of Harsin. One recruiting class wasn't changing things without signing a hired gun quarterback. My guess is their money knows that they need a quarterback and they'll find that rental this offseason.Year 3 with no improvement from Freeze is when hard decisions may need to be made. You only get rid of coaches before year 3 when it is a lost cause like Harsin. I don't think Freeze is a lost cause yet because he continues to sign good players.

Holy shite a sane take.

Agreed. It doesn't make sense to fire coaches too quickly. Every change results in another rebuild. You have to have a significant scandal or a complete collapse to justify firing a head coach within the first three or four years.

People forget that even HOF coaches like Bowden had subpar years before they got their program on track

Harsin was a disaster and didn’t recruit leaving us with our current mess.

On the plus side Freeze landed a top 10 recruiting class last year and is continuing the rebuild with a current top 3 2025 class.

But I thought you gumps said that AU only cares about beating Alabama? This disproves that. Make up your mind- can't have it both ways.

*was with the closest to the Death penalty sanctions, hanging over our team during this period…Most people forget this. Call it an excuse if you want to, THIS HAS TO BE MENTIONED when talking of Tubbervilles run against BAMA. It’s definitely an Astrik. The most comical thing here is Auburn hasn’t had sanctions while we’ve (and everyone else including VANDY) hasdone this to you…

While we as BAMA fans are experiencing one of THE BEST runs in college football..Auburn and Tennessee seemingly hit their lowest (UT until recently became somewhat relevant). Have to admit it’s been pretty glorious

These are silly questions. We all know - every Auburn fan admits - that we botched the hire following Malzahn. That doesn't mean we should have kept him.

Considering we're a national brand for college football, have a rabid supportive fanbase, and have a history of Heisman winners, NCs, and SEC championships, I think we have the right to pursue better than what Gus was giving us. Certainly better than what Harsin was giving us. With Freeze bringing in a top 5 recruiting class, I think we're showing that in the long run, we can be okay and achieve the goals we envision for ourselves.

Maybe it takes a different coach to get there, but I don't see why any SEC program with high aspirations and the finances to shoot for them wouldn't cut dead weight when necessary.

You’re crazy if you think the talent is good enough to be 4-1.

Compared to the teams we played? Absolutely. Every ranking I’ve seen show us with top-20 talent.

Gus Malzhan went 3-5 against Nick Saban. Auburn fired him for it. That was the highest winning percentage of any SEC coach who coached more than 6 games against Saban. Again, Auburn fired him for it. And here they are.

Les Miles was 5-7 vs Alabama and 3-7 vs Nick. He should have been 5-5 by winning the 2012 and 2014 games in TS. Saban outcoached Les in those games and siezed victory from the jaws of defeat.
