I love Horry. I just think it's funny when people use championships as the sole reason to put one legendary player over another. If it was rings and nothing else, then Horry would be an alltime great.
Seriously. Will Perdue and his 4 rings say hai...

Maravich
You can throw names out all day long that were great in their own right, but Pete was all alone at his level.

One of the Pistol's greatest games/shots was against UGA on the road. He hit 46 that nite, LSU blew out the dawgs, but he's dribbling out the clock..no clock shot back then...and even the Ga. crowd is on their feet, going nuts as Pete is going behind his back, thru his legs, for a good minute. 2 dawgs chasing him all the way out to half court.Back down to the baseline, back out to mid court. As the clock winds down under 10 seconds, he dribbles to one side of the court, starts towards half court, and just as he gets to the center circle, he lofts a hook shot. Nuttin but net, never breaks stride & runs right off the court, and the crowd went bananaas. If there was an ESPN back then, that would have been on highlights for ever.

I got goosebumps reading it.
He was the greatest college player of all-time and despite injuries and alcoholism limiting his career, he was named the NBA 50 Greatest Players of all-time list.
This thread should be about who's #2.

Well, there is only one player who had the most points, and rebounds for what most believe is the best team ever assembled.
But seriously, my vote is for Pistol.

Anybody who doesn't say Pete Maravich has never looked at the numbers
Actual numbers (w/o 3pt line):
3,667 career points – most ever.
44.2 points per game – most ever.
28 games with 50 points – most ever.
56 games with 40 points – most ever.
30 FTs in one game (off 31 attempts) – most ever.
Numbers if there had been a 3pt line:
5,822 career points – BY FAR the most ever.
57.2 points per game – RIDICULOUS.
