I just feel like Willians is one of the more universally liked stars of this league the past 10 years. It’s hard to find reasons to dislike him other than him just being good

I seem to remember LSU posters giving a lot of credit to Schofield and how tough he was that particular game.
Williams is a really good player. He baited that official in the hopes he wouldn't call a foul on that play. It didn't work. Plain and simple. If he doesn't touch him the game goes to overtime and you have no complaint.

In this era of the one and dones, especially in this conference, where the players are basically mercenaries, guys that really couldn't care less about team achievement and want to just improve draft stock/spend 8 months in school and head to the league, he is a breath of Fresh Air.

The main complaint I've heard from opposing fans besides the flopping is the talking and working of the refs constantly. It seems to have worked for him in SEC play, because I think he gets a very generous whistle, some of it deserved because of how skilled he is. He knows all the refs that do SEC games and has been talking to them for 40 minutes every game for 3 years but it's a little risky in NCAA Tourney play. All it takes is one ref who doesn't know you who thinks you're showing him up to put a couple ticky tack fouls and/or a technical on you.

If there is a universal truth about basketball (both at the college and NBA level), its that great players get a lot of calls. Williams is a great player and gets calls. I'm sure he gets a lot more now than he did two years ago.
If there is a universal truth about the Rant its that idiot fans exaggerate things. To say LSU fans have done nothing but trash Williams is beyond stupid.

Again this is correct I didn't see post by fans of opposing schools trashing Williams. Which seems to be accurate at this point. In the links provided by madmaxvol they have many post praising Williams. Seems he found one post by someone calling him a "bitch".
