QB- B Mauk played a pretty good game. Only a couple WTF moments. Was hurt by drops. Lock played very well. Definitely looks the part.

RB- D- We are shite behind Hansbrough. Inexplicably bad.

WR- B mentioned a few drops above, but other than that showed great athleticism. Really encouraged by this young group.

OL- F Awful performance. If we don't play much better here we have no shot at the East this year.

DL B saw a lot to be encouraged by here. Young guys making plays and should only get better.

LB A Brothers is a monster. In on every play. The rest had solid games. No mistakes, but no standout plays either.

DB A played an excellent game. Both in coverage and run support. Were hitting very hard and Dennis even chipped in a sack.

ST C kicking game was good. We still need to find an answer in the return game.

Defense: A (as far as exceeding my personal expectations go)

Offense: C+ (playcalling was bad but Kirk is the truth)

Our Oline was bad at times with Tunsil not out there ... Had some QBs take some shots in the first quarter... That shouldn't happen against UT-M.

The Good:

Defensive Line play was solid. Chris Jones is a man.
Special Teams were pretty good, sans the muffed punt. KO return for TD and perfect on FGs of decent distance is a good sign.

The Bad:
Offensive Line is a concern. Couldn't get anything going with our big back Shumphert, although Holloway had some good runs as a speed back and Prescott did his thing in the second half.

The Ugly:
Secondary. My God is that an SEC secondary out there? They were horrible.

A very ugly 18-point win that State teams from a few years ago would have found a way to lose. As bad as it was, you look up and USM scored just one Touchdown when they had a 10-yard field after a muffed punt.

We only had the ball for 6:00 in the entire first half and had the halftime lead. Some werirdness going on there with the two turnovers, the onside kick. USM threw everything they had at us, and they are improved.

Good thing I guaranteed we'd beat LSU next week. I'd be a little worried.

QB: A - Both looked solid, but Grier stole the show. Best arm we've had in awhile, and has gotten the timing down. Also has a quick release.
RB: B - Didn't break off any monster runs, but were getting 5 yards consistently. Taylor is running with a sense of urgency, and the potential of Scarlett & Cronkrite is obvious.
WR: A - Only one drop on the night and got separation the majority of the time. 8 different receivers caught a pass, which is always nice.
TE: A - Look to be one of the best groups we've had in awhile. McGee looks to be a great safety valve, and Lewis looks like a potential all-SEC type player down the line. Goolsby didn't look bad either.
OL: B - Did fairly well in pass pro, struggled a bit in run blocking though. Gained some valuable experience for the younger guys, so I'm happy.
DL: C - Struggled in the first half a bit with pass rush (were some obvious holds missed), and gave up a few running holes. Came back and performed much better in the second half though.
LB: B - Thought they performed well besides 2-3 10+ yard runs. Anzalone looks to be a monster, and Morrison got some PT after the injury last year. Davis looked pretty solid as well.
DB: C - Got beat 3 times down the field, 2 of which were over thrown. They did okay besides that, although I was expecting a few more INT's from them.
ETA: SP: A - Hardin hit 2/2 and had boomed all but one kickoff out of the endzone. Townsend only punted once, was a 40- something yarder. Coverage team only had two opportunities all night.

Overall a really good start to the McElwain era.

Auburn:

QB - D+ at best. F if we had lost.

RB - A- Peyton Barber played a great game. Suspect he will be the man.

WR - B- some good catches when JJ got the ball to them.

OL - B- started opening some holes for Barber

DL - B - A if they had played in 2nd half like in 1st.

LB - C Our LBs are a work in progress

DB- C would have been a B if Matthews doesnt get hurt.

ST - A. 56 yard FG and good punting. KO's in the endzone all night.

Qb - Grier A, Harris A
Rbs- B - No huge runs but good running all around and good pass protecting
WR- B+ - In comparison to Muschamps time insanely better, but still some clean up needed
O line- C+ - better than expected but not good enough right now

Dline - C- - Good pressure but should have been better vs opponent
Lb- B - Not sure honestly to give real grade
DB - B- - Bad first half great second half

Special teams - C+

Coaching - A - Great play calling on offense defense was vanilla as it should have been
