8 is the best - allows for all 5 conference champs (within reason) plus 3 wildcards which could include a Group of 5 (within reason)
eliminate conference title games that are all but meaningless
eliminate one non conference game that tends to water down schedules and is nothing more than a bye
play all games at home sites of highest seed and the national title can rotate amongst neutral sites
bowl games could resume for those outside top 8
you don't need a committee anymore, use a combo of the AP and Coaches poll and some sort of SOS component like NCAA tourney uses

Four is fine. At the end of this year, like every other year, we are not going to be saying Baylor/OU or Utah would have won it all if there were a 6 team playoff.

If you're going to go to an 8-team playoff, you don't need ANY biased, subjective opinion polling - whether it's the CFP committee, the AP sports writers, or the coaches.

Put in the 8 best conference champions seeded based on their SOS.

It doesn't matter of conferences are not equal, the first round will eliminate any pretenders.

The entire point of the playoff is to get the top 2 teams.

The point was not to get a playoff.

4 is fine.

You say there are 3 clear teams generally but want to expand. Seems we should shrink to 3. Give a bye to the 1

Cut regular season games to 10

No one who has been watching college football for longer than 15 minutes...and yeah, that includes the occasional Alabama fan...believes that the 75-100 FBS teams that would likely never sniff the playoffs in 50 years, should or would give up two games...including the revenue of one home game...just so that the top 20 can get a few more playoff appearances.

Just in the SEC alone...Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss. State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and South Carolina likely would still almost never sniff the playoffs. Then you have the ACC...Wake, Duke, NCState, UVA, BC, Syracuse, Ga. Tech, Louisville, Pitt. Then the other conferences. On top of that, the 60 teams of the Group of 5, 95% of whom would never have a chance to be in the playoffs, along with the 5 independents not named Notre Dame.

No way in hell the 80% of the FBS who would never sniff the playoffs in 50 years, even if it was 16 teams, are going to cut their schedule by two games. It's a non-starter.

So if the top 3 are head and shoulders above the 4th team why does it matter who it is? Adding 2 or 4 more teams just waters it down even more IMO.

5 champs and highest G5 conference champs auto-qualifiers

No and yes. For P5 champs only if they finish ranked in the top 10. Do not and would not watch a 5 or 6 loss team in the playoffs. G5 I agree only if they finish in the top 10. Conference championship would only have value if ranked high enough. So if 3 teams from the SEC & B1G get in with 1 PAC10, ACC, B12 and G5 great, but conferences are not the same.

Yeah that would be tough.

You can't really distinguish the difference between 6-11. Folks will then call for another expansion.

This isn't march madness.
