No Arkansas fan will respect Texas because of 1969.

He won’t answer

Also, ironic he’s talking about Texas fans like that when they’ve been begging their buttbuddy Tennessee to fight their battles for them since big bully Texas took their shiniest toy

But that is where most of Grandpa Longhorns horror stories come from regarding how mean and awful Hog fans are.

"Threw full whisky bottles at us"
"Were mean to the band and called the girl cheerleaders names"
"put terrible derogatory messages on church billboards"
"wouldn't sell Texas fans gas... and we had to drive to Oklahoma to get gas to go home".

Some Texas guy named Terry Frei wrote a book about that game and of course the them was... Texan... good and classy. Arkie... bad and trashy.

But why though?

Nobody needs to make amends to their enemies.

After the game, the gas stations in Fort Smith refused to gas up any vehicles with Texas license plates.

We truly dislike Texas. Don’t bring that measly mouth crap in here.

Lock the damn gates

In case you aren’t aware…this was your welcome to the SEC game. You’ll enjoy watching.

I think it’s possible to “hate” a team but also respect them. Arkansas and OU both fall into that category. Arkansas vs Texas was one of the best rivalries for decades before their move to SEC. I’m excited to be in the same conference with them again. And yes it is a beautiful state and though there are douches like in every state I’ve met some really cool and genuine people from Arkansas.

Of course there are also the teams that are rivals but you do not respect because their fan base and administration are consistently arrogant clown buffoons and that is aggy.

I fall in the category of technically being alive when Arky was still in the SWC, but too young to remember them playing Texas as conference foes. All I know of how it used to be comes from my dad, grandad and older relatives...and it sounds like they were bigger rivals than OU back in the day. My memories are more of piggy facing some of the worst Texas teams of my lifetime at the Texas bowl (we had zero offense under Charlie Strong) and then Sark's first year when we didn't yet have a QB. I think things will be much much different when we face them this year, but I'm having trouble putting more significance on this game than any of our others tbh. Guess I'll have to go back home and ask dad to retell some stories from back in his day, I didn't pay much attention the first time since my era was mostly all Big12 with OU being enemy #1.
