When money is equal, you have to consider obvious factors like South Beach Miami vs Athens, Georgia.
Which 20 something year old millionaire is choosing Athens? Hardly anyone if any.
Also, less pressure and an easier path to the playoffs and NFL.

UGA has plenty of money too, and a Top 5 program.

These are at odds with each other. It's irrelevant how much money we have socked away somewhere since all that matters is what Kirby decides we're willing to part with.

I mean, Gunner didn't have the Arch Manning name and hype waiting in the wings, but there was definitely trouble in paradise and the honeymoon was over for Beck last year.
Georgia fans were frustrated with stupid throws and bad INTs that were way more common than the year before, and a lot of chatter was his "distractions" of girlfriends and drugs.
Then you have the SECG in which it looked like he was going to lose and was on track to lose until he got his shoulder knocked off his body and then the scrappy back up comes in and leads a cinderella story victory.
Beck probably didn't want to compete or deal with any competition and Miami was offering $3-6mm.
He will probably play better at Miami this year than he would if he were at Georgia this year so I think it was a win/win for both parties.

For Miami. Pussy is undefeated.

He needed to get away from Bobo to have any hope of going in the 1st 3 rounds. He, in my not so humble opinion, is the worst OC in the conference and the reason UGA didn't win the NC last season.

UGA pays players like everyone else, but they don't do stupid money for anyone.
Starting QB at UGA will get about 1 to 1.5 million in NIL. Miami offered him 3 million.
UGA also doesn't throw stupid money at HS recruits (like Tennessee did for Ima gonna leave ya).
Don't know if that will work well going forward, but that's where they are currently.

Simple answer, GA was ready to move on from him, thus the money wasn't going to be matched against the Draft or Miami.
He needed a new home regardless, there was no love lost occurring and he couldn't stay even if GA matched Miami's offer.

Supposedly was offered more money to transfer than UGA was willing to pay for his services. Who knows other than a handful of folks and they ain't talking.....

This is the main reason really. We weren't gonna give him a sizeable raise coming off of that season and it's pretty clear he wasn't a favorite guy in the locker room. Not mention that ghosting the coaching staff after the SECCG didn't help him.
He was going to Miami a lot during the off season on weekends. Kind of funny that the relationship went sour with the twin once he moved down there.

There is no doubt UGA could match any offer. The question is why would they? Beck had just finished up the worst season in 3 years at UGA and was injured with no guarantee he was going to get better at the time. He also considered leaving....that's a BIG deal. It would be fool indeed who found themselves in a position to be forced to pony up or lose what amounts to an employee....UGA had a couple in the wings who are, by all accounts, about as impressive as Beck who were not telling UGA they were leaving if UGA did not match or beat Miami's offer. Most coaches want players who want to play where they are...Beck indicated that he was contemplating not doing so....he had to go at that point regarldless of how good he is and he is pretty damned good...but he is not bigger than the program. If you let one player play you like that you are going to have 50 try it...just like an employee no matter how badly you want to retain them if they tell you they have a better offer its best to wish them the best in the future endeavors...

I dunno…rumor was, he went to Kirby and asked for the sum he eventually got at Miami and was told it wasn’t happening and that he should go pro or transfer. He said he was going pro at first and then went to Miami.
‘Course, that’s just a rumor.

Why can't you be this reasonable on the UGA board?

The entire understanding was he was going to the NFL draft. That was the whole plan. He was very high on the draft boards. UGA and Beck had already planned for this. Gunner and Puglisi have patiently waited for their turn, just like Carson Beck did. The injury ruined all that. Kirby didn't want Gunner or Puglisi to transfer, because they are the future - not Beck. With Beck getting surgery and rehab and not being able to go through Spring, Kirby also couldn't guarantee he'd start. Enter Miami and the money, willing to take a chance on a damaged good, it's a no-brainer.
Lots of UGA fans really butthurt over something really simple and common sense. They wouldn't have had any problem with him forgoing his last year of eligibility to the NFL "for the money"- but when he does the same thing to Miami due to injury circumstances, they hate him.

My son's best friend's sister is a UGA student and is friends with a player on the team that told him that Beck was an 'a$$hole' and no one on the team cared for him much. He was very impersonable. But he said EVERYONE loved Stockton. Take that FWIW.
