In the old days of the SWC, Gomers was one of the nicknames for the Aggies, as in Pyle (Corps related).

Yeah you can thank tSECr for the “gay” monikers; our five Yell Leaders tradition was a mind bender for ‘em.
Until coming to the SEC, all I ever heard—in terms of A&M nicknames—were agricultural and corps related quips. The posters here have turned the gay thing into a story of their own.

The Yell Leaders have been around for generations, but it took tSECr to pervert a 100+ year tradition of five kids—at a school that for most of its existence didn’t enroll women—into something “gay.” We would hear the occasional “milkmen” comments (based on their all whites); but never the oddities that tSECr has created.
When the tradition was started, those young men would’ve popped you in the mouth for making such an implication; but then, folks just didn’t think that way at that time.
I was simply agreeing with the poster who referenced Corps of Cadets pejoratives as what we heard in the SWC.
