I think everyone would take Mullen over Mac . But he is not competing with Mac for the job . UF doesn’t have any interest in him just last when they hired Mac . Sounds like Mullen doesn’t want the pressure of being at a big program so he doesn’t want to coach at UF . If he ever leaves State it’s because he thinks the job is better because He already makes what he is worth . I don’t think he will ever leave

Good. I think it's best for both parties for Dan to stick with MSU. He has a chance to be your "legend" coach. That would be awesome. I'm not even trying to be a smartass.

You mean to tell me Florida was never in it for Mullen, and he wasn't their top 3 or 4 choices?

You don't say.

I disagree. Florida doesn't want to offer and have the rejection letter in the media (why would they?). If Mullen would be open to it, he would be choice 1a or 1b at the worst.

i agree with you.
But have you considered this? you mean the same pressure that Mullen saw when he was your OC? The same pressure that caused Meyer to fake illness. The same pressure that fired Muschamp shortly after an 11 win season? The same pressure that created McElwain's discord with the administration after going 2-2 in the weak East?

In case you haven't noticed, the pressure is a "you" problem.

I don't disagree at all with your assessment of Mullen and his worth.

bet you don't know what mullen makes at msu.

florida wouldn't top that much and when you consider the after tax (and agent's cut) effect it probably wouldn't be worth it for him IF he's as happy at state as he says he is.

Here in lies Florida's problem. Yes, their fans are proudly proclaiming "just winning the East two years in a row isn't good enough for us" but every coach out there is looking at this thinking "winning the East two years in a row isn't good enough for them?"

When you are stepping up to a big time coaching job its damn rare to get two shots at it. Muschamp pulled it off but for most coaches its get fired once and welcome to coaching in the MAC for the rest of your career. I hope you like Ohio in November.

Given that you are likely to only get one shot at the brass ring why go to a school that will fire you coming off a division championship?

1) because coaches think they are the answer - ego
2) because coaches see an offense that was in the 100s for three straight years and almost know that they can do better
3) the East is shite - unless that narrative has changed to suit one's argument that UF should be pleased with East titles and an offense in the 100s and a regressing defense and shite for brains pressers and lack of discipline and on and on and on and on

I doubt coaches put much energy in wondering what a fan base thinks, at least that would be my guess.

Florida's situation is unique in that they didn't fire a coach who won 2 division titles in the 2 previous years, they fired a coach who openly lied about death threats and embarrassed the university as a result.
That is different than firing a coach you aren't happy with, which I think was the case here, but UF got an out because he was an idiot.

I think UF can do better than this.

First of all, your numbers are incomplete.

Second of all, do you not understand the concept of building a program and how it's a multi year process?

What is Saban's record against Louisiana Monroe?

Dumbass post.

I can’t believe I’m defending Ohio State, but their two coaches prior to Meyer were there 12 and 9 years respectively. As far as McElwain goes, any other decent team in the SEC would have been looking to get rid of him too if he was their coach.

I bet it's a reference to the old internet lore that Mullen was a lock for UGA if Richt ever left.

I didn't know if Georgia fans were even aware of this rumor, but it was prevalent on Mississippi sites

You are absolutely correct. It isn't sad.

But don't tell that to Florida's ego. They are the most sensitive bunch. A photo of some stranger and a shark has sent them off the rails.

I think McElwain was the only person who didn’t think that whole thing was funny.
