I know very little about track and field but is this the kind of athlete that could be trained up for the decathlon at an international level?

Yes, I was just talking to one of my friends about that. He hasn't posted any times above 400m though. he seems to be a freak though.

Good god man... are you a barbarian? The oldest form of competitive sport in the world is boring? I guess you never saw Billy Cannon, 215 lbs, win the 100 at the 1957 SEC? I guess you never saw Dave Wattle win...or the amazing 10,000 run by Billy Mills in Japan?
How about Al Oarter winning 5 Olympic discus... Do you have no appreciation of what it took for Edwin Moses or Carl Lewis to do what they did?

Track and field is the most compelling sport this side of football. Even a youth parish meet is great theatre. Just because T&F is severely degraded in the US (my 1962 all-white high school team in Gainesville Fla would be competitive for State prep honors in LA today)no reason to snort just because you don’t understand what it

Finally, a white dude overcomes the systemic racism of sprinting.

It's nice for little white dudes to have a role model, but its a shame its taken this long for equality.

Track meets are fun. Watched a lot of the ladies SEC championships live at the sports bar last weekend.

If you can’t play defense, it’s not a sport. Tennis, MMA, soccer, baseball, and basketball are all more compelling than track and field.

GHS... PKYoung was kinda nerdy back then... and yes, “nerd” was a word in 1962.

He didn't weigh 215 maybe 205 but not 215. It is also widely rumored he was one of the first guys in the SEC to experiment with anabolic steroids. Regardless, Cannon was a deserving Heisman winner and a great athlete.

If you saw him run, on a cinder track, you would have thought he weighed 240 compared to who he was running against. He looked like the pictures of Jim Thorpe. He was bigger than most linemen... and was widely advertised as 215 lbs. whatever...

He's a grinder. Good fundamentals. Really has a good knowledge of the sport. High Track I.Q. Oh, and he has deceptive speed.
