The list is based on past performance. I'm more interested in what Bret will do in the future.

GO HOGS!

Yeah, Franklin and Muschamp are just starting out the gate and Beilema (with a few others) are brand new to league. Be a whole different list 5 years from now.

Because he's at Arkansas and this is the Rant

I totally disagree with Mack Brown at 12.

He still has a shite ton of ten win seasons, a natty, and had them play for a second.

If it was as easy to win at Texas as their fans want everyone to think McWilliams and Mackovic would have lasted longer.

It comes from the fact that he wasn't great against the upper teams in the B1G. He won some big games but his 3rd Rose Bowl bid came from finishing 3rd in his own division.

I think top 10 is too high for him, and he should be in the mid to late teens

I don't think that 2B is bad at all but I also don't think he is a top 10 coach in college football either. I thought that Arkansas did the best job in the SEC for filling their vacancy with a "proven" coach that had a style that could compete in the SEC the best.

And if other teams in their division didn't cheat so much, he would have won a lot more.

What's laughable about my statement? At best, 2B is 5th in the SEC alone if you don't think Sumlin is ahead of him which is very debatable and possibly add Muschamp, Franklin and Jones to the argument but those are a stretch.

Outside the SEC, I can think of at least 5 to 10 coaches that I would hire before 2B. That puts him around the 15 mark.

And I'm not a homer, until he proves himself, I think Malzahn should be near the bottom of every list.

This is true. It is not easy to win at Texas. First and foremost, it is a political job where you have to appease the boosters.

What Texas needs most is a CEO coach who hires great assistants and shapes the image of the program. There has certainly been questionable coaching, but that isn't Mack "per se," it's his ability to fill those slots with the right coaches, and that's probably been his Achilles heel.

Coach Brown is an ultimate arse-kisser and elbow-rubber, though. Darrell Royal with his folksy, quotable whit and rubbing elbows with Presidents and executives and newspaper editors helped him a lot, too.

I would imagine Saban is not an arse-kisser with the alumni (not that he's insulting), and that's why he really wouldn't be a good fit at Texas. Some Billy Bob wouldn't like that and there'd be some resentment because they wouldn't feel "special," and the slightest Saban slip-up would bring animosity to the surface, no matter his record.

Bielema has a top 10 resume, and a MUCH better one than any of the coaches you listed.

I just looked at his wiki and would like to hear how this is a top ten resume.

2006 12-1 with a bowl win
2007 9-4 with a bowl loss
2008 7-6 Bowl loss
2009 10-3 Bowl win
2010 11-2 Bowl loss
2011 11-3 Bowl loss
2012 8-5 and didn't coach in the bowl loss.

so as a head coach he is 68-24 with a 2-4 bowl record. Not sure how this translates to a top 10 resume.
