Said this just a little while ago on Finebaum. I don't know what kind of clout he carries or knowledge he might have, but this would be freaking devastating.

quote:

It's something we've all wondered.

As each day passes we not only worry about the health and safety of those around us, but there's the thought of losing a season of college football. As if it's not bad enough that we might have missed out on LeBron James' shot at a fourth ring, the Masters, Wimbledon, Opening Day, etc.

All compromised to coronavirus.

But it can't take college football right? Former K-State president, Jon Wefald has told Paul Finebaum that if there's no vaccine for COVID-19 by July, there's like not going to be football this fall.

According to Annelies Wilder-Smith, professor of emerging infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, their likely won't be a passable vaccine for 18 months according to projections.

They aren't going to play football in the middle of nowhere, or in front of empty stadiums with only cameras and TV networks. Nope. They aren't playing football if there's no vaccine by July according to the former president of a Power 5 program.

As someone who not only loves, breaths, and quite literally dreams about Saturdays in the fall, but is kind of in an industry built on the back of college football, the reality those won't be there this fall is finally starting to set in.

Whether he’s correct or not, we almost certainly will not have a vaccine by July. Even expediting the process for testing a vaccine.

Greg Sankey, Ed Orgeron and Dabo Swinney disagree. At this point I prefer to believe them.

Expediting the process gets us a vaccine maybe late 2020/ early 2021.

This Greg Sankey?

The Southeastern Conference was shocked by the NCAA's decision to cancel all championship events for spring sports, and its administrators have not entertained the possibility of canceling the conference's postseason tournaments in baseball and softball, a source tells 247Sports.

The SEC has not contemplated the possibility of canceling seven spring sports' seasons or its postseason championships and tournaments, a source said.

"It hasn't been on the table to discuss," the source said.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey expressed his surprise the NCAA had decided to cancel all postseason events, dating all the way through early June at the men's College World Series.

“I’ve been through enough surprising statements or events in the last 36 hours, and I’m a bit numb, as you might imagine,” Sankey said on The Paul Finebaum Show. “Surprised that we’ve made a decision now in mid-March to not play a baseball or softball national championship event. So I look forward to learning what informed that decision.”

The decisions will not be made by college coaches or AD's or conference commissioners. The decisions will be made by college presidents and their governing boards and state political leaders. IF a few colleges cancel the 2020 season, most will follow.

frick Christmas. We want football. Christmas is the fakest shite ever and brings out the fake in people. Not a fan at all. I'm not sure I can survive fall and winter without Fantasy Football and Survivor pools. I'm like a crackhead junkie with that stuff.

Not to mention that there has never been a vaccine for a coronavirus. If successful, which is highly doubtful, we may be able to say good-bye to most common colds and the risk of future coronavirus pandemics. Something good comes out of every bad situation but I sincerely doubt that a coronavirus vaccine will be developed.

I think y’all need to start preparing yourselves for this happening. Not predicting it will happen, but it wouldn’t surprise me and the sooner you start preparing for it happening, the less depressing it will be if it does happen.

maybe he is being realistic?

ETA Have you not been paying attention? The medical experts have been saying it will be at least the first of the year before we have a vaccine. They will know if it works the first month they test it. They won't know the side effects of the drug for months and months. They will not unleash some vaccine that they don't know what the long term issues might be.

so basically................common sense.

My guess, and it is a guess, is that unless this burns itself out in the next couple of months, we have to wait for a vaccine around December. If that is effective and widespread we probably see a truncated Spring football season along with a ton of other sports.

Even if football is back on schedule normally....having no fans or stadium restrictions is absolutely on the table
