Bowden, 64, spent seven seasons at Akron before he was fired at the end of the 2018 season, later joining Dabo Swinney's staff at Clemson as a graduate assistant.
Bowden replaces Matt Viator, who was fired after the Warhawks failed to win a game this season and didn't lead in any contest. Per The News Star, "ULM’s final game at Troy on Dec. 17 was canceled because of COVID-19 issues within the program," the third time that's happened this season.
Terry is the son of Florida State coaching legend Bobby Bowden.
After being fired at Auburn in 1998, he spent a decade as a television and radio analyst before returning to the sideline at North Alabama in 2009. Bowden also coached at Samford, and Salem College.
ULM to hire Terry Bowden as coach

Wow!
He's been on the sidelines at Clemson the last couple of years.

Tater Tot was a Clemson GA. He was apparently going to classes.

A 62 year old graduate assistant. You’re never too old to get an education folks.

Hey at least he's trying. I know a certain 55 year old coach who refused to try and learn or adapt.

Well at least he can't be worse than what they had. 0-10 attempt. There is no where to go but up.

I was a student his first 2 years at Auburn.
He was a great play caller and developed a good offense.
He hated recruiting and did not try very hard to recruit players.
I read an article where Tuberville said they had to start from scratch because Bowden had not even met the high school coaches in the State.

I saw him when he coached at UNA...
He had rosey red cheeks, was short, and plump.
Looked like a fat elf.

Felt like he was trying to get FSU players but couldn't get those so he took their castoffs. A lot of his guys weren't ever eligible or got in trouble.

Damn. I remember his tenure, but I don't recall that tidbit.
He was one of those coaches who caught the ire of the Finebaum crowd, and he always seemed to be getting dragged on the radio, especially since (unfortunately for him) he set expectations so high after that first season.

Hope Auburn schedules them just so we can beat his arse one time.

This will be a train wreck that I will enjoy watching.

Often times coaches catch fire their first year or two.
Bowden inherited a team that learned toughness from Pat Dye.
Then Bowden was able to pair innovative offensive concepts and great play calling with a tough and determined team for great success.
Eventually, the Dye installed toughness worked its way out of the program and coupled with the lack of recruiting which led to Gabe Gross as QB and disaster happened.
