1. LSU offered a job that he ultimately decided he wanted. He told them he wanted to coach the playoffs and they agreed BUT LSU needed a firm commitment. They couldn’t wait 6 weeks without that.
They dont do handshake agreements anymore? If that isn't good enough Kiffin should have said SOL

Waited until after the playoff.
He offered to stay and coach through the playoffs and though it would've set us back on recruiting temporarily LSU was fine with it

Ideally, Lane could have let it be known to LSU officials that he would leave OM at the end of OM's playoff run and insisted that LSU keep everything on the down low until after OM's playoff run was over. Lane and LSU both could have avoided a lot of criticism handling it that way instead of announcing and making the move when they did.
Isn't this what Kiffin and LSU tried to do?
The chaos followed once Ole Miss said that Kiffin has had an extension offer on his desk for weeks waiting to be signed.

Not a hater, but I would have let him coach the playoffs
Someone on SEC Network made a great point yesterday. If he coaches in the playoffs, every time they show him, every time they talk about him, they are going to mention that he is going to be coaching at LSU. On top of plundering the coaching staff and roster, he is now getting free advertising for LSU at the expense of Ole Miss.
I don't care what Lane says, when he talks about all of the people he was in contact with, and listening to Sumrall saying they had talked about things, Lane's mind was made up weeks ago. He should have been up front and honest about it then.
He should have announced it and let Ole Miss decide if they wanted him coaching the Egg Bowl or not, as well as the playoffs. By dragging it out and being his typical attention whore self, he also put Ole Miss behind the 8 ball in finding his replacement. Who knows who they would have interviewed and possibly hired if he had announced he was leaving back in mid November.?

Those are good points, but I think Kiffin gave them their best chance of winning the NC. Bad publicity and coaching staffs are temporary, National Championships are forever.

All Kiffin had to do was say he wasn't going to entertain offers until after Ole Miss had finished it's season and shut down all public speculation. He should have meet with 0 teams.
It not only would have been better in this situation, it would have made him a more valuable coach.
Instead he spent weeks soaking up the attention, trying to maximize things so that he could get better offers. Probably because he knows this year was mostly a product of the Ole Miss schedule and he needed to strike combined with his high school girl mindset for seeking attention.
He didn't spend 6 years at Ole Miss because he loved it so much, he spent 6 years at Ole Miss because nobody better was dumb enough to hire him.
He whored himself out auction style and reinforced every negative thing his reputation is known for.

Leaking that your family was touring Gainesville and Baton Rouge is definitely keeping it on the down low. Do y'all read what you write?
You seem to think that going to LSU is the issue. It isn’t. It’s IMMEDIATELY threatening the staff that if they don’t leave with him (and leaving his players without coaches for the playoff), that they don’t have a job. I don’t blame him for going to LSU, but it’s obvious he’s in the middle of a temper tantrum because Ole Miss didn’t want LSU’s head coach in their building, being paid by Ole Miss for a month.

He could have told LSU to wait from the get go.
Wouldn't have been an issue had both parties agreed to let Lane sign a MOU or a contract or something that would lock him in at LSU.
BUT OM wasn't going to do that for fear of him recruiting current players over to LSU.

Overall it seems the NCAA once again fricked things up with the calendar. Really Lane is not the true villain. That will always lie with the NCAA.
They just need to get rid of ESD, and move the portal back to late January-early February to coincide with NSD.

This reasoning seems dumb to me. He still can contact them, he could've been talking to them all last week.
And it sounds like Weiss Jr may stay throughout the playoff and go to LSU.

No LSU couldn’t afford to wait on it 6 weeks. They would have lost half their signing class and got blown up in the portal.

The LSU AD is on record saying they would wait however long it took. If that is waiting on Ole Piss to play in the NC game then so be it.
