I am just adding them because if you only look at SEC titles you're not telling the whole story for those who joined later on.

LSU won the National Title game that year. It wasn't awarded shite.

The winner of that game is awarded the title.

Do you know what award means?

to confer or bestow as being deserved or merited or needed

Oh wow. Is this for real? You so desperately want UGA on a list of titles that you want the 1980 national championship included because it was “won” on 1/1/1981?

Let me ask you this - when was the last time UGA defeated a Top 2 team to win a title?

I’m not a UGA fan but it is a very legit title in that timeframe

I am not a UGA fan either, but I do have a masters degree from there, and I'm going to use it in this thread by saying that since 1980, which is very obviously intended to mean since the 1980 season, of which the 1/1/81 Sugar Bowl was part of, Georgia has not won a national title.

By your logic, you could say that "since 2019, LSU has won all of the college football national titles." And it would be a silly argument, because everyone knows that LSU won the 2019 national championship, not the 2020 title.

The comment was meant to combat the notion that UGA should have been awarded something in certain years...but that LSU somehow was undeservingly “awarded” something in a year they went 12-2.

Damn Arkansas has fallen off a cliff. Before 1990 they were good football program.

Here is seasonal results from 80-89.

1980 7-5 unranked
1981 8-4 coaches No.16
1982 9-2-1 AP No.9 Coaches No.8
1983 6-5 unranked Lou Holtz fired. Ken Hatfield hired.
1984 7-4-1 unranked
1985 10-2 AP No.12 Coaches No.12
1986 9-3 Coaches No.16 AP No.15
1987 9-4 unranked
1988 10-2 Coaches No.13 AP No.12
1989 10-2 Coaches No.13 AP.13 Ken Hatfield leaves for Clemson.

83-33-2.

Arkansas finished ranked in the top 20 six times. The top 25 didn't exist at this time. They were conference champs 88-89. It would have another one if it wasn't for this Worst pass interference ever

Pause at 9:58 Mark. This bad call gave SMU enough time to kick a field goal and tie the game. Even legendary Keith Jackson said it was a bad call. SMU was cheating on the field as well. The uproar from Fayetteville was enough that the head ref never officiated in the SWC ever again.

The SWC had a rule in place that no one can officiate a game involving their alma matter. Ensuring that no one from Arkansas could officiate hog games. That means they would all be from Texas. These are one of many reasons Arkansas was trying to get out of the SWC.
