The NCAA also told Florida if they would come clean they would go lightly. Florida did and still got hammered.
They got 3 years probation...a little over 2 years later, SMU got the Death Penalty. So, as bad as it was...it could have been worse.

My favorite memory of that game was ...
The Bulldogs defense dominated the game, and Spurrier threw three interceptions in the 27–10 Georgia victory. All-American defensive tackle Bill Stanfill would later reference Spurrier in recounting his experiences growing up on a farm in southwest Georgia before the advent of weightlifting: "Holding pigs for my dad to castrate was quite a challenge. I can't say that helped prepare me for football, but it sure did remind me an awful lot of sacking Steve Spurrier."

Georgia has paid for that game 100x over.

I followed the Gators closely in 84. Charlie Pell left them with too many violations and sanctions. They were absolutely the best team in the SEC that year. Somewhat of a machine.

UF was the best team in the nation in 84.

They didn’t have money to buy a Big Mac
How many times are we gonna hear this bullshite?
I remember Chris Weber saying same thing and it turned he was getting 50k+ at Michigan
Big Mac Story:
quote:
But somehow many of us missed it. We chose instead to believe the myths. When Webber laughably claimed that he was frustrated because he couldn't afford to buy a Big Mac at McDonald's while local vendors sold his jersey for $50, we lapped the story up and cried about the injustice of the NCAA not paying its athletes.
We're part of the problem. We, the media, can blame Webber and the Fab Five for sticking their hands out and accepting what was given to them, but that's pretty much what we told them to do. For the past 20 years, ever since college football and men's basketball have become big, big business, we've wrongly told college athletes they've been getting ripped off. The NCAA should give them something, at least money to go to the movies and do their laundry.

Please.I rarely if ever saw this with CFB players I hung out with in college.

quote:WTF does Chris Weber have to do with me?I damn sure didn’t get $50k from a booster. I also don’t know any of my Gator teammates getting that type of money. We were lucky to sell tickets for a few hundred dollars. I would have loved to keep those tix and give to family or friends but I needed the money. I have no idea what athlete friends you had. I knew several athletes at UF that parents had money. Most of the swim team, tennis, golf, even basketball athletes had nice cars and had disposable income. Most of the football players did not. Which is why some athletes were easy prey on unscrupulous people.

Like I said. UF did not have a competitive advantage based on the violations the ncaa claimed. The worst of it all was that they destroyed a good man in Charlie Pell. He was one of the biggest hearted people you could meet. He cared for people and the ncaa went after him at Clemson and did the same at UF. It’s a total shame how they ruined him.

Have they? UGA is 29-28-1 in the series since. Florida was far better from 1990 - 2002 or so than UGA was....UGA was pretty bad for most of that period and wasn't capable of beating Florida no matter how much of a temper tantrum the old ball sack threw. The fact is that the old ball sack made UGA pay for that game once when he ran a flea flicker up by about 6 TDS with a minute or so left in the game. The rest of the time he was at Florida, with the exception of a few years, UGA was simply not a good football team.

Apparently, Florida didn't learn their lesson. They were hit with probation again just a few years later.

This is false. UT offered but Steve's skill set was inconsistent with the offense UT ran. Steve has used the square peg, round hole to describe the difference

He hates Tennessee because some JC skank said he had a little penis.

UTjr fans are about the last people who should be shitting on UF. Y’all haven’t even played in the SEC title game since 07 and got blown out by our doofus HC.
