Steve Berkowitz of USA Today is reporting that the state of Florida also proposed a bill relating to college athletes’ name, image, and likeness, with Fla. Rep. Chip LaMarca adding that another bill on the matter is coming.

The bill “authorizes students participating in intercollegiate athletics to receive specified compensation,” “provides requirements for specified students, postsecondary educational institutions, certain organizations, and specified representatives,” and “creates Florida College System Athlete Name, Image, and Likeness Task Force.”

According to the release, the bill, if signed, will go into effect on July 1, 2020, two-and-a-half years before the California bill is expected to go into effect (January 1, 2023).

So Florida still won't be eligible to compete for a national championship. Will there be any actual effects?

Sans the timeline, I have been saying CFB is headed for a spiral to nothingness or an elite few which essentially is the same. The SJW’s will then have taken away an avenue for structure and education to student athletes. I will enjoy it while it exists.

Cfb has been dead since 2008 ish.

It’s all about money & brand now. If you aren’t in the p5, you may as well be fcs.

If this becomes widespread, it’ll basically ensure that smaller schools will never be competitive in CFB.

Kinda always been that way unless you really think BYU was some type of powerhouse in '84.

When was it not? Notre Dame had some of the best "branding" in CFB during the 50's,60's and 79's

Actually, in an odd way, the collective bargaining social justice crowd failed, and now, the left are going straight "capitalism wins" with the law.

The NCAA was the artificial regulatory body in place to keep free market athletes out of college-athletics for a reason.

But, why study history or even feign to keep the student in student athlete? We are looking at a minor league that is free of charge for the NFL. Execs win through the Dems. It's a topsy turvy world.

We are going to have no choice but to follow California's lead, or we will start losing recruiting battles...

or, "we" will remain in the NCAA and all schools supporting the new law that violates NCAA regulations form a new league.

The latter likely runs counter to many desired student athlete ideals and values, and several institutions opt out as it is hard enough to fake a true student-athlete model as it is
