So maybe the compromise for LSU fans is something honest and along the lines of:
“Lane is an A-hole. But he’s our A-hole now. So we have his back.”

Ole Miss played this a little too publicly,
You think ole miss is the one that made this the clown show it was? We basically just had a LeBron "the anouncement" style deal over where a 50 year old dude is going to coach college football for 10 million dollars a year. Why not just take the job or keep your current one. If you work somewhere and leave for a direct competitor youre done right there at any job ive ever had. What does ole miss gain from that? Give lane potentially another month to talk to all their good players about how theyre gonna build this up further and they should follow? Ole miss is concerned about ole miss. They dont and shouldn't give a shite about his next venture.

What exactly did we do to play this “too publicly”?
Seems like the ultimatum/deadline stuff and then the various announcements today about staff, etc. didn't need to be out in the open, but maybe that wasn't the AD's doing.

They could have allowed Kiffin to coach throughout the playoffs.

And we’re the bad guys for not allowing that to happen?

When you play poker and have a shitty hand, you don’t announce to the table that you intend to bluff.LSU called your bluff and said —feel free to coach through the playoffs. You should have gone all in at that point and told Lane to coach the playoffs. LSU may have likely backed out if he chose to do so given the upcoming portal date.

Coaching and poaching at the same time.
Lane was trying to get Ole Miss to fire him
so he could try negotiate a buyout. He is
LSU’s problem now. I would imagine
this exit has ruined any chance he has
at the NFL and any other blue blood school.

Would LSU have allowed him to coach had they been in OM’s shoes? It is a really simple question.

Uh, no we didn’t. It’s not even technically official yet. It’s just sports journalists tweeting.

LSU fans aren’t exactly bright.

Because Tulane/Florida and Ole Miss/LSU is totally the same scenario*****
Get real….
In both cases it's a coach taking a step up the coaching ladder.
Ole Miss wants to believe it's a "top rung" job. But it just isn't. People who do well at Ole Miss will move on to one of the bigger jobs.

Oh whatever….nobody has said OM is a “top rung” job. But it IS a bigger job than f’n Tulane.
